I agree that emissions from previous coal energy plants caused harm to communities but I believe technology can clean the emissions coming from the stack and produce energy at a reduced rate for Nevadans. Unfortunately the science is not settled regarding the cause of global warming or, if global warming truly exists.
We should pursue thermal, nuclear, solar, wind, and every other type of energy generation. We should not sacrifice one for the other when the environmental debate still rages. If Nevada continues to pass up opportunities to build coal plants so solar fields can replace them, our costs for energy will get higher and higher.
There is an incorrect perception that solar and thermal can immediately replace coal as a viable energy source. In time that may be correct but the technology is still 10 years away for the ability to produce the same energy level.
