If you didn’t want to brave the downpour to drop-off a frozen turkey Thursday, then you are in luck. Another frozen turkey drive runs all day at the Max Casino in Carson City or the Sanchez Meat Co. in Minden. The Carson High Craft Show, a long-time locals’ favorite, begins this evening at 5 p.m.
Art Exhibit in Honor of Native American Heritage Month at the Historic Wungnema House

In recognition of that, the Foundation for Carson City Parks & Recreation is hosting an open house and exhibit of selected examples of two- and three-dimensional Native American art at the historic Wungnema House in Mills Park, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 17, 2017.
Sunday, Oct. 29: Things to do around Carson City and Beyond

Downtown Carson City has you covered with a ‘Sunday, Bloody Mary Sunday’ bloody mary contest in Arlington Square. Get your trick-or-treat on at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada or at the historic Wungnema House at the east end of Mills Park. Grand Entrance at the La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow begins at 12 p.m. Its new home at the Multi-purpose Athletic Center (MAC) has let the annual event become even bigger. You’ve got one last chance to get your fill of cotton candy and the Ferris Wheel: the RSVP Nevada Day Carnival closes at 8 p.m.

I made the decision to put all of the parade related events into a separate list for a few reasons: one, this list would be way too long otherwise; two, Halloween fun is plentiful all weekend long; and three, I want my list to be as easy to read as possible. Read on for events throughout Carson City, Carson Valley, Dayton, Silver and Virginia Cities.

This is an all ages event, children are welcome, and may come in costume for some old fashioned trick or treating.

This list of happenings in the Carson City area isn’t getting any shorter. The annual Genoa Candy Dance is a favorite among locals and visitors alike, and this weekend welcomes the first ever Silver State Arts Festival at Fuji Park, as well. The first ever Community Garage Sale at the Community Center offers one-stop bargain hunting. Swing into the season at the monthly dance party hosted by the High Sierra Swing Dance Club.

Besides being a chance to learn about this historic building, this will also be an opportunity to discuss and review possible improvements to dog park areas in Fuji Park and Sonoma Park with FCCPR officers.

The Foundation for Carson City Parks & Recreation (FCCPR), is hosting an Open House at the Wungnema House located in Mills Park, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 24, 2017. Besides being a chance to learn about this historic building, this will also be an opportunity to discuss and review possible improvements to dog park areas in Fuji Park and Sonoma Park with FCCPR officers. Carson City Parks, Recreation, and Open Space (Parks Dept.) staff have prepared a list, with preliminary cost estimates, for improvements to dog areas at Fuji and Sonoma Parks.

Take a peek inside the historic Wungnema House on the east side of Mills Park, courtesy of the Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation. If you are over 21, try your hand at BINGO in the Carson City Senior Center. Even if you aren’t a big winner, the Meals on Wheels program benefits from your afternoon of fun.

If you aren’t off to the Playa yourself, there will be plenty of fun around town to keep you and your family occupied. The second annual Family Fun Day in Mills Park is your best bet for kids of all ages. This week’s free concert at Brewery Arts Center features the Dusty Green Bones. Don’t forget your dancing shoes; they’re sure to keep you on your feet.

A bowling tournament and the Comstock Shootout Soccer tournament have the hotels and motels busting at the seams. Celebrate Earth Day with Muscle Powered by making a small piece of Carson City that much cleaner; the trash meets at 8 a.m. and leaves you plenty of time to enjoy the day. Grab the kids and head to the First Presbyterian Church for a free concert. Get in a bike ride before the wet weather returns: Muscle Powered leaves from Fremont Elementary School at 9 a.m. and also sponsors weekly hikes throughout town. If you’re interested in joining them, their potluck membership meeting this afternoon at the Brewery Arts Center is the perfect time to fill out a membership card.

The Carson Mall is jam-packed full of crafters and unique shops for some of your last-minute gift purchases. Hop in the car and take a tour of the brightly lit downtown and houses throughout the area. Kids will enjoy decorating a cookie at Genoa Candy and Coffee in Carson Lanes; you may as well get there early and bowl a few games first.
