Carson City Republican Women to hear Assemblywoman Robin TItus

Carson City Republican Women's Club will hold its first meeting of the year on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Casino Fandango. The guest speaker is GOP Assemblywoman Dr. Robin Titus who will address the issues facing rural and urban Nevada as the remaining new laws that were passed in the last session go into effect.

Social hour begins at 11:00 a.m. and the lunch meeting at 11:30 a.m. Reservations are required by Friday, January 17 and can be made by EVITE, by contacting Lori at 775-220-3646 or by calling Gale at 775-241-2054. The cost for the lunch is $25.00/person.

Brothel in Lyon County fights for records after state classifies sex workers as employees, not independent contractors

A brothel protesting that the state has classified sex workers as its employees rather than as independent contractors — a change that could mean the brothel owes a large sum to the state’s unemployment insurance fund — is now arguing over public records before the Nevada Supreme Court.

Misfits Theater Group Holds Auditions for Spring Melodrama

The Misfits Theater Group in Dayton is holding auditions for its Spring melodrama “Showdown at Phingerdoo or Bad Day at Dead Frog Flats” on Sunday, January 26 at 6 p.m. at the Dayton Library, 321 Dayton Valley Rd, Dayton. This old-time melodrama directed by Andra Woolman is set in the Wild West and has a cast of eight (8) men and five (5) women. The Red Hat Society delivered warm bedding and clothing to each of the residents at Richards Crossing in Carson City last week. A local chapter of the Red Hat Society named the “Classy Sassy Bear Ladies” organized a Christmas gift giveaway for the residents. The giveaway, for which planning started over the summer, collected homemade and donated blankets, scarves and socks.

Carson City awarded historic marker commemorating Women’s Suffrage in Nevada

Carson City was awarded a historic landmark suffrage marker honoring Felice Cohn, a Carson City native who made significant contributions to women’s rights in Nevada. The unveiling of the historic landmark is scheduled for Dec. 10, 2019 at 1 p.m. The landmark will be unveiled in front of the Legislature, adjacent to Carson St. near the crosswalk to McFadden Plaza, previously known as 3rd St.
