Carson City health officials warn of heat wave this week, urge protective measures
Submitted by editor on Mon, 07/31/2017 - 11:27amThe National Weather Service in Reno is predicting record high temperatures in Western Nevada over the next few days, resulting in increased risk for heat exhaustion and heat stroke. People who are at highest risk are the elderly, the very young, and those with chronic diseases or who are overweight, but even young and healthy people can get sick from the heat if precautions are not taken.

If you’ve got kids, test their mettle at the annual Capitol City Triathlon. Open to kids of all ages, they will bike, run, and swim their way to the finish line. The third annual Sassabration event kicks off with a multi-colored, costume bike parade from the Brewery Arts Center to the celebration at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint. Multiple bands, vendors, non-profit booths, free swimming at the Carson Hot Springs, not to mention the yummy food and drink available make this a not-to-be-missed festival.

Fire engulfs Tahoe Queen at Zephyr Cove
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 08/16/2016 - 9:52amUPDATE 7PM: Investigators and vessel inspectors from Coast Guard Sector San Francisco are on the scene of Tuesday's fire on board the 119-foot passenger Lake Tahoe paddle wheel boat, the Tahoe Queen.
"Most of the damage is limited to the boat's pilot house and second deck," Lt. Jake Aulner of the U.S. Coast Guard told South Tahoe Now. "This can be attributed to the great response by the Tahoe Douglas Fire Department."
Aulner and the team from USCG Yerba Buena Island will be at the scene until the cause of the morning blaze is determined.

"Whether they say they're from NV Energy, the gas company, the IRS or other utilities, don't be fooled. Don't fall prey to these scammers," said Furlong.
