As most of my readers know when it comes to politics I am a registered Independent. Most other Independents that I spend time around are individual thinkers who appreciate space and time to make up their minds before voting They are not party hardliners as are many Democrats and Republicans. I opposed the 1/8th cent sales tax because voters were denied their right to vote. This tax includes funding for narrowing the downtown street and is similar to a project previously voted against by the citizens. Based upon past and current input received, nothing has changed.

The underground utility work would have been required and the funds were available, even if the narrowing of Carson Street had NOT occurred. That is a fact.

As a voter like you, I am listening to, viewing, and reading much on Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. One is well known in Washington politics and the other also well known but outside the Washington beltway in terms of political experience. Both Clinton and Trump are the presumptive Democratic and Republican candidates for president of the United States respectively. Both have fought very contentious campaigns, Both do not carry a high degree of trust with the American voting public, but for different reasons.

Nevada Republican voters spoke loudly last night. Again.

They spoke loudly in November 2014, voting down a proposed gross receipts tax (GRT) 4-to-1 and sweeping Republicans into control of Nevada’s executive and legislative branches for the first time in generations.

That was a mandate to hold the line on taxes, reform collective bargaining, stop the bleeding in the Public Employees Retirement System, improve schools through choice and other reforms, and especially to oppose the kind of tax 79 percent of voters rejected.

Others saw things differently.

Nevada Business Weekly recently announced the 2016 Legal Elite. A new Farmers Market has sprouted on Third Street; Geeks Who Drink Pub Quiz night at Westside Pour House tests your savvy; and a Jazz Jam at Living the Good Life will get you jiving. The Firkin and Fox offers up Jack Daniels as this month's Whiskey Wednesday spirit. Speaking of whiskey, Americana/roots rock performer Stacy Jones hits the stage at Sassafras during her 'Whiskey in the West' tour.

WEDNESDAY: Bike to Work Week

It's going to be toasty today. Luckily, weekly Parks and Rec 'Easy Walk' starts at 8 a.m., so you'll be off the trail before the sun gets too far overhead. The Brewery Arts Center hosts the Carson City Classic Cinema Club the first Tuesday of each month; join them this evening for trivia and a showing of John Wayne's 'Stagecoach.' Dance the night away to the sounds of big band or cowboys: swing dance lessons are at El Charro Avita, while country line dancing can be found in the Eleventh Frame Lounge at Carson Lanes.

You’ll find a new exhibit in the CCAI Gallery at the courthouse, so check it out after you cast your early vote in the primary. The Sacred Arts of Tibet Tour has brought the monks of the Gaden Shartse Phukhang Monastery back to the Brewery Arts Center; today they’ll perform a tea offering and give a presentation on happiness. Negroni week kicks off today at the Firkin and Fox, but several local bars are participating in this fundraiser.

Hold onto your hats, Carson City, summer has arrived with a bang. Bikes, brews, bulls and broncs are just a few of the things you’ll find on this event summary. Whether you are looking for adult fun, family fun, art, music, shopping, or something outdoorsy, look no further: Carson City and her neighboring valleys are packed full of fun.

What a week. Granted, it was a short one, but school got out for the summer and we saw the weather go from a wintery chill to summery hot. Get your early primary vote in this afternoon, then stick around for the Artist Reception for the new exhibit in the CCAI Gallery upstairs in the Courthouse Building. Live music can be found at our bigger casinos, and a dj will keep you on the dance floor at Jimmy G’s, Alatte in the Carson Nugget, and Living the Good Life. Sassafras welcomes Bryan McPherson to the stage at 8 pm; you’ll want to get there earlier to take full advantage of their menu.

Chris Forbush's defense claiming a student exemption allowing him to bypass the physical residency requirements to run for office in NRS 218A.200 is without merit. Simply put, you have to be a student to have a student exemption. But here are the facts that are not in dispute:

*Forbush graduated from college in Utah in April of 2015.
*Upon graduation Forbush ceased to be a student in an academic institution.
*Forbush then took the Utah bar exam (not Nevada bar exam) and successfully passed it and began practicing law in Utah.

The Brewery Arts Center, in partnership with the Municipality of Carson City and the Levitt Amp Foundation, is introducing a brand-new live music concert series to the Nevada state capital starting Saturday, June 4 and running ten consecutive weeks through August 6.
