During Thursday’s Board of Supervisor’s Meeting, the Board voted on a measure to transfer ownership of the site of the Brewery Arts Center into the hands of the Brewery Arts Center themselves. For the past 40 years, the City has held ownership of the property at 449 King Street, and has been leasing the property to the organization.

The site of today’s Brewery Arts Center has gone through several changes in its time. The Carson Brewery was first built in 1860 by John Wagner, who created the brewery during the Comstock rush to wet the whistles of all those hoping to become the next gold-rush billionaire, and it became Nevada’s longest-operating brewery to date.

It has been said that women don't sweat, they glow. Well, Mother Nature is starting to glow. While greed and conspicuous consumption thrive, carbon emissions continue to cook our planet. And so it becomes our solemn duty to leverage the power of markets, contain climate crisis, and rescue our Earth Mother.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region packed with excitement over the next three days. Events include the Silver State Art Festival at Fuji Park, suicide awareness walks in Carson City, a Celtic faire at Dangberg Home Ranch, the ninth annual Edible Pedal bike ride at Bowers Mansion, train rides in Virginia City and much more!

Dozens of hot rods will roll into Carson City next week for the 9th annual Rockabilly Riot held at Mills Park. The event originally got its start in Reno but will be hosted for the 4th time here in Carson City.

On Thursday morning, a military convoy led by veterans and military enthusiasts stopped at the Nevada Railroad Museum in Carson City after having already driven 150 miles that morning.

Heading into Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, events around the capital city region include a morning hike at Lake Tahoe, a Healthy Communities meeting in Virginia City, a cross-country convoy of vintage military vehicles that will make a stopover at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, activities at the Carson City Library, book author presentations at the Nevada State Library and Archives and the Brewery Arts Center, food trucks at Mills Park and more. CARSON CITY — A convoy of vintage military vehicles, making its way cross country to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first U.S. Army Transcontinental Convoy from Washington, D.C. to San Francisco, will make a pit stop for lunch at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City on Thursday, Sept. 12.

Red Wing, Minnesota is the cutest town I ever saw. You can't see it without falling in love with it. I wanted to fold it up and take it home with me. They make shoes there, comfortable, sensible shoes. I was reminded of what my mother told me, "Honey, always have a good pair of shoes and a good bed, 'cuz you're either in one or the other."

VIRGINIA CITY, Nev. — Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties September breakfast meeting is on Thursday, Sept 12 at 9am at the Storey County Community Center in Virginia City.

Guest speakers this month are Ginger Paulsen from Reno Behavioral Healthcare Hospital, and Robin Reedy from state of Nevada chapter of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness).

Good morning Carson City and happy Saturday! Today we’ll see a high in the mid 80s and a low in the mid to low 40s, which to me sounds like Fall is right around the corner!

We’ve got a ton of great events today and tomorrow, so check them out below:

Carson City is a very special place and, as the city continues to grow and prosper, many are looking to relocate here for a myriad of reasons.

Through the years, Carson City has changed. There have been good times and there have been times that, as Thomas Paine wrote, “have tried men’s souls.” We’ve lost some historic and iconic structures but have bounced back in the good times. The biggest recent changes occurred in 2016 with the reimagining of the downtown core that continues today.

Heading into the weekend, there’s plenty of activities around the Carson City region to help the next three days breeze by. Events include an artists fair at Carson Mall, the 60th annual camel and ostrich races in Virginia City, a memorial run in Carson City, the 28th annual Oktoberfest in Gardnerville, a Veterans Resource Fair at Carson Nugget, history walks at Mormon Station Park, live comedy and more.

For 60 years, camels, ostriches and even zebras have come to Virginia City for the annual International Camel & Ostrich Races. This hilarious annual tradition dates back to the 1950s, and features jockeys precariously perched on their beasts as they maneuver the track at high speeds, aiming for a win among the cheering audience in this historic mining town.

The river life is a good life. Mississippi River life is as good as it gets, and when you're pretending to be Mark Twain it gets even better, as you become the one and only unfettered monarch in America, no matter what anybody else says. And fun? As Huckleberry might like to say, "I reckon not."

Heading into Monday, Labor Day 2019, we're looking at continued sunny skies, with daytime highs in the low 90s. There's no better place than Virginia City for a parade, and the Comstock continues to honor those who use elbow grease to keep the gears of our great American way grinding. Thank you. Other activities include a Tahoe beach cleanup, art showings, swing dancing and an interfaith picnic at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Carson City, where folks of all religious stripes come together in fellowship and kindness. Heading into Labor Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next four days, which include guided tours at the Nevada State Museum, movie showings at Mills and Schulz Ranch Park, a school supply car cruise and Bingo fundraiser at the Carson Mall, trash pickup at Lake Tahoe, a Rolling Stones tribute band at Carson Nugget, Virginia City’s Labor Day Parade and more!

CARSON CITY — V&T Railway will hold auditions for the 2019 Polar Express season on Thursday, Sept. 5 and Friday, Sept. 6 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 7 from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Eastgate Depot in Carson City. The railway is looking for actors, actresses and singers, age 13 and up to play roles from the popular movie including stewards and conductors, elves and Santa Claus.

Start your weekend off with a fun Poker Run. This Poker Run is open to the public. All motorcycles and cars are welcome.

Run date is Saturday, Aug. 31, 2019 and open to age 21 and over. The first stop in Virginia City will be open at 11 a.m. with the other stops being local in Carson City.

I fell in love last November with some ducks who marched in perfect procession down a red carpet to a fountain in the lobby of the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, and jumped in. They do it every day, and have been doing it for 85 years. To see it, well, it's enough to make an ogre smile.

Riley McHenry a 14 year old Freshman at Sierra Lutheran High School completed the Western States Trail Ride or Tevis Cup on Sunday August 18 at 4:45 in the morning.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days, including HopeFest9 on Friday, dirt bike races at Fuji Park, a job fair at Eagle Valley Children's Home, and the final weekend of the Jazz and Beyond festival and Levitt AMP outdoor concert series at the Brewery Arts Center.

Virginia City's Historic Fourth Ward School Museum’s 3rd Annual Steppin’ Back In Time fundraising event, highlighting The Fabulous 1950’s, will be Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Join us for an exciting evening of fun as we step back to the era of the Sock Hop. Come dressed in your favorite Poodle Skirt or Denim (optional), enjoy hors d'oeuvres and refreshments and celebrate life as it was on the Comstock.

Having made it through the first day of school in Carson City, it is onward and upward as we head into Tuesday, August 20, 2019. Events around the area include fitness hikes and bike ride, a free floral design class at Silver City School House, art showings and Congressman Mark Amodei at Casino Fandango. Also featured is the launch of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the community center, a jazz quintet performance at Comma Courtyard and the 115th birthday celebration of Count Basie as part of the Jazz and Beyond music festival.
