Every year, the Veterans' Administration holds a talent contest open to all U.S. Veterans. This year, a bronze medal was won by Carson City veteran David Kotzebue.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong has named Assistant Sheriff Kenny L. Sandage to be appointed to the position of Undersheriff in December.

Mr. Sandage will assume the duties and responsibilities vacated by retiring Undersheriff Steve Albertsen. Ken Sandage, a decorated 26 year veteran with the Sheriff’s Office, has held the executive administrative position of Assistant Sheriff since August 22, 2014.

On November 24th, 2017, The Carson Comedy Club inside of the Carson Nugget presents Comedian Carlos Rodriguez. The 21 and older show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 and available from guest services.

Based out of Atlanta, Carlos is a Navy veteran, a family man, and one who loves to make people laugh. Humor and comedy have kept Carlos sane in one of the most stressful and unenjoyable places to be.

Carmen Rank, federal contractor to the Skyline Transition Assistance Advisor Program, is most recently known for her work in connecting all Nevada National Guard and reserve members to resources as well as benefits earned through military service.

Honoring our Veterans is the theme for the Tuesday, November 21st meeting of the Carson City Republican Women's luncheon held at the Carson Nugget. Our guest speaker is John Yuspa, Founder and CEO of Honor Flight Nevada.

Every year for Veterans Day, several local and national businesses go out of their way to say thank you to the men and women who have served, and are actively serving in our armed forces. Carson City schools are hosting a number of Veterans Day events Thursday to recognize and honor military men and women including display projects on the lawn at Carson Middle School. Veterans from all branches of military service are invited to view, or attend any of these events including local students and their families.

Carson City students will recognize and honor military men and women this week with Veteran’s Day displays and events. Veterans from all branches of military service, as well as families of students, are encouraged to attend. Campus visitors should check in at the front office at each school site.

Veterans Healing Camp cordially invites the community to a special Flag Raising Ceremony with bagpipe music and free concert on Saturday, Nov. 18 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Veterans Healing Camp property located at 1775 East US Highway 50 in Silver Springs.

The Carson City Council of the Navy League of the United States will honor Veterans, past and present, at our November Meeting! We will also pay tribute to our MIA’s and POW’s and celebrate both the Navy and Marine Corps birthdays. Our speaker for the Special Veteran’s Day celebration will be Katherine (Kat) Miller, Colonel, USA retired, who is Director of the Nevada Department of Veterans Services.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office, along with the Dallas Police Department in Texas were able to locate Ryan Perkins, a person reported missing and last heard from Oct. 11 by telephone in Carson City.

Carson City resident Brenda Horton, along with Air Force Chief Master Sergeant Dallas Croft, are set to receive an award and recognition from Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval's office in a special ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 21 2017.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public’s help in attempting to locate a missing person. Ryan Perkins, 24, was last heard from on Oct. 11 by his girlfriend on the phone in Carson City.

Disabled American Veterans Chapter 7 and Auxiliary Unit 7 meet Tuesday 5:15 p.m. at 124 W. Second St Carson City at the Corner of 2nd and Curry St. All disabled veterans and their families or anyone related to a Veteran are welcome to join us and see what the Auxiliary is about.

There are new Department of Defense (DoD) guidelines on sexual orientation, however, many lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, and questioning (LGBTQ) veterans may not be aware these changes may benefit them. If they were discharged with a less-than-honorable discharge based on their sexual orientation, they may be eligible for a discharge upgrade.

The Nevada State Honor Guard as well as the Las Vegas Firefighters Local 1285 Pipe and Drum Corps opened services Saturday morning at the Nevada State Firefighters Memorial in Mills Park to honor two Las Vegas area firefighters who died in the line of duty last year.

The Nevada Attorney General Office of Military Legal Assistance in conjunction with Nevada Legal Services will be hosting a free veteran legal clinic at the Veteran Memorial Hall located at 124 W. 2nd Street in Carson City on Saturday, Oct. 14 from 10am-2pm.

Veterans and immediate family members can receive civil legal assistance including wills, healthcare and financial powers of attorney and legal advice on bankruptcy, creditor/debtor, landlord/tenant, and consumer fraud issues. Thank you!
