CARSON CITY, Nev. — Nevada Department of Wildlife director Ken Mayer has been named a co-recipient of the 2011 Secretary’s Honor Award, the most prestigious award given by the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture (USDA).
Mayer received this honor for his role as a partner on the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Sage-Grouse Initiative Team.

U.S. Chamber of Commerce Report Says Nevada is Fastest Growing Export State

The value of the state’s manufactured exports has more than tripled since 2002. Its primary exports are mineral deposits, coin-operated games and electronics.
Other states rated highly for exporting are Louisiana, Utah, South Carolina, Mississippi, Delaware, and Texas.

New Report Shows Nevada Among States Collecting Most Excise Tax Revenue

Nevada is one of six states – along with Connecticut, New Hampshire, Minnesota, and West Virginia – that collect over $600 in excise revenues per capita.

If you arrive at the right spot in southern Utah at the right time, some of the largest and rarest birds in the world might soar directly over your head.
On June 18, the Division of Wildlife Resources will host its annual California condor viewing event.
Dubbed "The Day of the Condor," the free event runs from 8 a.m. to noon at Lava Point. The point is 21 miles north of Virgin in southwestern Utah.
Work contiues to keep quagga mussels out of Utah

A surprise was waiting for boaters who entered Utah from Arizona on the morning of May 13.
They were required to pull off of Interstate 15 at the port of entry just south of St. George. Then biologists and law enforcement officers with the Division of Wildlife Resources inspected their boats and personal watercraft for quagga mussels.
The DWR and the Utah Department of Transportation joined forces to conduct the checkpoint.
Cutthroat trout record set in Utah

Curtis Robinson caught a 31½-inch cutthroat trout at East Canyon Reservoir this spring.
The fish Curtis caught is a new Utah state record—it's the largest cutthroat trout ever caught and released in Utah.
Curtis caught the 31½-inch "cruiser cut" at the reservoir in northern Utah using a handmade marabou jig.
"That's the fun part," Curtis said, "catching it on something you made yourself."
Utah to release its first tiger muskies

The first tiger muskies ever raised in Utah will soon be swimming in six waters in the state.
Fertilizing the eggs from a Northern pike with milt from a true muskie creates a huge fish called a tiger muskie.
The tigers will be only two to three inches long when they're released. But they won't stay that size for long.
