Five years ago, our community suffered a great shock when four people, including three National Guardsmen, were the victims of a shooting attack at IHOP. Throw in some great music on the veranda at Adele's, a Ukulele Jam at Mormon Station in Genoa, and a Vintage Chevy Meet-up in Virginia City and things get a little more random. Crossroads Lounge is hosting their last Wednesday night karaoke this week; a new night and time will be announced soon. Carson Hot Springs invites all Veterans and Military members to come swim for free today.

A bingo party fundraiser, featuring a 1980s theme, will be held Friday, Aug. 26 at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive in Carson City.

Hot August Nights is heating up and will be stopping at Minden Park for their Poker Run lunch. Sing your heart out during karaoke at Living the Good Life or Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar. Join Muscle Powered on an early morning hike to Secret Harbor or a late afternoon bike ride.

Holy Tuesday, Batman! Today is jam-packed full of options around our valley. A walk with Parks and Rec, a movie viewing with the Classic Cinema Club, and life-sized board games at the Library are all on the docket for today. The big story, of course, is National Night Out with the Carson City Sheriff's Department. Free food, activities, fun, and even an aircraft or two descend on Mills Park for the annual party.

Tonight, Thursday Aug. 4 beginning at 6 p.m. Geeks Who Drink will host Trivia Night at the Carson City Library courtesy of the Friends of the Carson City Library. The event is open to everyone 21 and older who bring their ID. Non-alcoholic drinks will be provided courtesy of the Library. More may be won as the night progresses!

I'm chomping at the bit for Saturday: the Taste of Downtown is almost here. It is one of my absolute favorite events, and one of the most delicious. Grab your tickets at Classy Seconds Thrift Store or the Purple Avocado. A jazz jam with Tom Stryker at Living the Good Life is a great way to soothe the soul.

If you hear some great music downtown, then you’re probably near Café at Adele’s. Tower of Power hits the stage for the annual Concert Under the Stars to benefit the Greenhouse Project. Grab some grub for a good cause at Buffalo Wild Wings: LBL Equine Rescue is holding a fundraiser. Take an easy ride with Muscle Powered; tonight’s ride is perfect for beginners. If you’ve got kids, Frozen is tonight’s choice for the Carson Library movie night. Classic car aficionados should head to Bully’s if they want to join in this week’s Silver Dollar Cruise Night.

The great day about three-day weekends is how quickly the next weekend appears. Today may feel a little like a Monday, but there are plenty of ways to enjoy yourself. Check out the new Spirit of America show at the Nevada Artists Association Gallery at the Brewery Arts Show. Our local Classic Cinema Club meets tonight and will be showing 'A Walk in the Sun' with Dana Andrews. If you feel like playing with fire, Controlled Burn meets at A to Zen to practice the right way to handle the flames.

Enjoy an outdoor concert with the Sagebrush Rebels at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park. The Trippin King Snakes make their monthly appearance at the Carson Cigar Company for June’s Birthday Thursday.
