Volunteers sought for cottonwood tree planting along Carson River Park
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Tue, 10/10/2023 - 5:40pmFall is upon us. While many of us are enjoying pumpkin spiced lattes and carving pumpkins, we are also strolling along the river corridor to look at the changing leaves in our cottonwoods.
Fall is a great time to get out and add to our cottonwood population along the river. Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space invites the community to come out and plant young cottonwoods with staff at Carson River Park from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18.
Carson City's Pioneer High School 2020 seniors honored with tree planting dedication

Conny and her son Jason Hernandez, delivered a Red Bud tree and granite rock with a plaque dedication to the Pioneer High School class of 2020.

Carson City Parks and Recreation to celebrate Arbor Day 2019 with Mills Park tree planting

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space department welcomes all community members to celebrate with us as we plant a new tree in Mills Park and read Mayor Bob Crowell's proclamation. The event runs from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

The kids of Wild Horse Children’s Theater continue their successful run of Junie B. Jones at the Brewery Arts Center - it’s their final weekend, so don’t miss out. Maddie’s Adoption Days is a state-wide event trying to find forever homes for dogs and cats; you’ll find several local shelters and rescues participating in the free adoption days.

Several events over the last few weeks were re-scheduled due to weather: today you’ll find the make-up for The Greenhouse Project's Early Spring Plant Sale and the Carson High Safe Grad 5K Run/Walk. Get your Roller Derby fix with a scrimmage and a Junior Victory Rollers bout against Santa Cruz. The Bob Boldrick Theater at the Community Center is where you’ll find ‘Carson’s Got Talent.' Cheer on your favorite local performer and help raise funds for the Senior Center’s Meals on Wheels Program. You’ll have to keep reading, this is just the tip of the fun-time iceberg.

If you can make it through today you’ll be rewarded with warming temperatures, with Sunday starting a nice little run in the 70s. Celebrate Arbor Day with a tree planting at Mills Park, and if you’re one of the first fifty arrivals you’ll get your own sapling to plant. Afterwards, take a stroll with the Carson City Historical Society and learn about the history of our big downtown trees. Tonight, Carson Comedy takes over the Carson Nugget and the Brewery Arts Center as Dan Gabriel and Chris Franjola bring the laughs.
Yerington celebrates Earth Day with word of $36 million in federal funding for water projects

Nevada county association celebrates Sesquicentennial tonight with western singers, UNR cadet band
Submitted by editor on Fri, 09/19/2014 - 3:37pmTonight, Sept. 19, the Nevada Association of Counties will host a celebration of Nevada’s 150th birthday with a performance by local western musicians Richard Elloyen and Steve Wade.
The event will also feature the UNR Cadet Band and a chance to see inside one of Carson City’s historic pre-statehood homes. The event begins at 6 p.m. on the lawn of the historic Ormsby Rosser house at 3rd and Minnesota Streets in Carson City.

Arbor Day 5k Fun Run/Walk this Saturday in Carson City

Riverview Park is located at the end of East 5th Street, next to the Korean War Memorial. There is parking and facilities to accommodate the whole family.
Carson City Democratic Women's Club

If you wish to order off the menu please arrive between 11:15 and 11 40 AM. Instead of having a speaker, a report on a survey of the membership will be presented. This may or may not lead to action on new programs and activities.
Plans for a picnic and tree planting will also be discussed. There will also be a raffle and good fun. All registered Democrats are welcome to attend.
Earth Week celebrated at Western Nevada College campuses in Carson City, Fallon

Renewable energy exhibits, an organic gardening lecture, alternative fuel vehicles and a tree planting ceremony will also be featured.
“Many diverse and interesting activities will be offered,” said Valerie Andersen, WNC public service librarian and college Earth Week event coordinator. Students, faculty and the public are invited to attend.
Gov. Sandoval, Japanese General Consul Participate In Cherry Tree Planting Ceremony
Submitted by Nevada News Bureau on Thu, 05/10/2012 - 5:09pmCARSON CITY – Gov. Brian Sandoval and Japanese Consul General Hiroshi Inomata participated in a cherry tree planting ceremony today on the state Capitol grounds.
The trees were donated to the state to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the planting of cherry trees in Washington, DC, that were donated by the people of Japan as a sign of friendship. The 3,020 cherry trees were presented to the people of the United States and were accepted by President William Howard Taft.
Shade Tree Council Hosts Tree Care Seminar

The Seminar will be held in the Sierra Room at the Community Center from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. and is open to all tree care professionals and tree lovers in the community. The Community Center is located at 851 East William Street in Carson City.
Hundreds Of Trees Planted But Few Jobs Created In Clark County Federal Stimulus Project
Submitted by Nevada News Bureau on Mon, 08/08/2011 - 2:00amCARSON CITY – If a $490,000 grant to plant trees in Clark County public places as part of a federal job-creating stimulus project should be measured by the “greening” of Southern Nevada, then the effort might be considered a modest success.
Thirteen different government and nonprofit entities applied for 1,814 trees for planting at 35 different public areas in Southern Nevada through the grant. A total of 1,541 trees have been provided to the agencies and groups for planting, mostly at schools and parks around the Vegas valley.
