Two face murder charges in connection with early morning Carson City shooting
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 01/11/2016 - 10:29amUPDATE 5:19PM: Two brothers were booked on murder charges in the shooting death of an 18-year-old Carson City man early Monday morning following a drug transaction that turned violent on the north side of Carson City.
Jesus Garcia-Manriquez, 18, and Allen Garcia-Manriquez were booked into Carson City Jail on charges of principal to murder in the shooting death of Grant Watkins, 18, of Carson City.

Alum Presents Refugee information
CHS alum, Kaitlin Brush (class of 2004), presented to social studies classes this past month. Her informational presentation focused on the definition of refugees, migrants, and internally displaced persons, and the current refugee crisis in the Middle East and Europe and how different European countries are working to address the growing number of refugees.

Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 11/25/2015 - 9:01amWhile not much in the way of snow happened overnight in Carson City, forecasters say a few snow showers may make their way off the lake. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Scattered snow showers are expected to continue on and off through the morning from Reno to Carson Valley. The snow showers are likely to become more numerous by mid day, potentially producing 1-2 inches of powdery snow, according to the National Weather Service.
Salvation Army seeks support for teens, most often overlooked at holidays

Even with 82 locations around Carson City and Douglas County, including 27 of the Salvation Army’s ubiquitous red-kettle bell-ringers, Lt. Mark Cyr of the Salvation Army said teenagers are the most often overlooked population during holiday gift giving.
Reno Rodeo Denim Drive

The Lake Tahoe resorts, under parent company Vail Resorts, says it will, for the first time, hire teens 15 and over who wish to work on the mountain. Teens can apply for jobs such as cashiers, ski and snowboard school teachers’ assistants, guest services representatives, parking attendants, cleaning attendants, ticket sales and scanning.
Senator Square: CHS students work alongside medical professionals at RAM event
Submitted by editor on Sun, 10/25/2015 - 9:47amLast weekend HOSA members, also known as Future Health Professionals, volunteered at the RAM medical event held at Carson High School. HOSA students served as interpreters, place holders, registration assistants, dental scribes, and vision care assistants.
The students were able to put the skills that they learn in class to use. They also gained valuable experience by working alongside dentists, doctors, nurses, and optometrists. The RAM event served more than 900 people in the Carson City area.

Carson Victory Rollers Breast Cancer Charity Scrimmage

$5 donation at the door with all proceeds going directly to local cancer foundations. Junior team skates at 5:00. Kids/Teens costume contest at 6:00. Adult scrimmage at 6:30.

City management would love to get your input on what they are calling the ‘Greening of William Street.’ So, if you have any ideas about how you would incorporate trees into the Hwy 50 corridor, please head to the Community Center at noon.

- The American Sign Language club is going to be signing songs at lunch on Thursday.
- The Gay-Straight Alliance is going to be putting up a respect wall - a giant poster for people to write what they respect about someone else.
- There will be a daily announcement with a tip on being an upstanding young adult.

Woman sought in another theft at south Carson City beauty supply store

On July 11, 2015 at approximately 1 p.m. the woman shown in the was seen removing merchandise from the shelves and tampering with the wrappers at Ulta Beauty, 911 Topsy Lane.
Women sought in theft of $3,700 in makeup from south Carson City beauty supply store
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 08/04/2015 - 6:38pmThe Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying these females of interest in a theft that occurred at Ulta Beauty, 911 Topsy Lane, Carson City.
On July 3, 2015 at approximately 7:30 p.m., three Hispanic females, late teens to early 20s, entered the store with what appeared to be empty handbags. The suspects walk directly to the shelves and quickly removed approximately $3,762 worth of makeup. The suspects concealed the makeup in the handbags and exited the store, making no attempt to pay for the merchandise.

The Ghost Walk returns: meet behind the Firkin and Fox for some local haunted history. Teens will enjoy a ‘Night at the Library’ with pizza and games. And as always, the Nevada State Railroad Museum beckons: this week with rides on the Steam Train available.
