What Works: Affirmations are fluff if you don’t believe them
Submitted by editor on Tue, 01/16/2018 - 10:42amI was working with a client today who had a concern about her confidence. “Everyone has a degree and I don’t,” she said. She mentioned her lack of degree had held her back from meeting new business contacts. Sometimes, she felt like running away when a conversation turned academic. Occasionally, she did by ending the conversation.
What Works: What do you really want? Find out through visioning
Submitted by editor on Mon, 01/08/2018 - 1:16pmWhen you strip away the expectations of your family and the “shoulds” of life, what do you really want? What do you long for at your core, when no one is watching? When meeting the expectations of yourself or others isn’t a factor, what do you really want to do with your life?
What Works: Forget resolutions, set a focus word for this year
Submitted by editor on Mon, 01/01/2018 - 12:54pmI used to be the resolution girl. I would set no more than three resolutions each year. I’d break the first the same month, the second in February, and the third by March. I always felt a little bad about breaking my resolutions. But everyone was breaking theirs. So, there was sort of a permission to it. A few years ago, I started a new tradition. I threw resolutions out the window and instead starting using a focus word.

However, to me, it’s not the grand gestures we should strive for every day. It’s the simple pleasures of life that spread the spirit of joy, giving, peace, and love year-round.

What Works: Let September 11 Bring Out the Best in You
Submitted by editor on Mon, 09/11/2017 - 11:32amThis is the 16th anniversary of a national tragedy. It was a day the nation paused, slowed down, and turned toward concern for our fellow man. Rather than destroy us, the attacks of September 11, 2001 pulled us together as a nation like no other recent event. We turned an eye toward pain and showed compassion.
