Extension and Carson City partner for public input sessions

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension and Carson City leaders will collaborate to gather input from residents regarding priorities in public services. Faced with shrinking budgets, it is vital that those charged with providing public services know what is important among citizens.
 The public input sessions will be at the following Carson City locations:

Thirteen apply for Carson City Justice of the Peace position

Thirteen applications for the position of Carson City Justice of the Peace were submitted to the city by the Feb. 11 deadline.

Applications for the position of Carson City Justice of the Peace / Municipal Court Judge were sought by the Board of Supervisors. The position is to fill the vacancy created by retiring judge Robey Willis whose last day is March 12.

Lyon, Carson City, Mineral and Storey county leaders attend summit on marijuana use

A number of leaders from around Northern Nevada, including officials from Lyon County and Carson City, attended the summit earlier this month that highlighted the impact of marijuana use.

The summit held in Las Vegas on Jan. 13-14, featured a dynamic group of local and national experts that presented the latest research and data on marijuana and its impact on community, the environment, enforcement, business and economy, treatment, and legislation.

Kids Fishing Day at Carson City’s New Urban Fishing Pond

Carson City's newest recreation feature will be dedicated on Oct. 23, along with a Fishing Day, highlighting the opening of the one-acre Urban Fishing Pond.

The event, which runs from 7 a.m. to noon at the Carson City Fairgrounds at 601 Old Clear Creek Road, is free to the public. Sponsors include the Nevada Department of Wildlife, Carson City Host Lions Club, and the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department.

Flood advisory issued for Carson City region

Carsonweather.com reports the National Weather Service in Reno has issued a flood advisory through 8:45 tonight for Carson City, Northwestern Douglas County, West Lyon County and Southern Storey County including Virginia City.

Contested Public Records Cases Could End Up Costing Storey County Taxpayers

CARSON CITY – A Fallon attorney who has won two public records cases against Storey County is asking the Nevada Supreme Court to require the local government to pay his requested fees and costs for bringing the actions.

Storey County authorities investigate fatality at USA Parkway

Storey County law enforcement officers are investigating an incident tonight in which a female motorist was found dead.

Details are sketchy, but the woman was found in a vehicle in the area of USA Parkway in Storey County, said Jerry Antinoro, Storey County assistant sheriff. It is not known at this time by law enforcement if it was a vehicle accident.

The woman was found past where the pavement ends, Antinoro said.

Rummage Sale for Food for Thought

Support Food for Thought and homeless kids in the Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey County school districts. Food for Thought provides meals to local homeless children on weekends when there are no school meals available to them. Gently used items are requested for donation for the rummage sale.

Carson City BLM office: Statewide public land fire restrictions begin July 16

With hot weather, dry lightening and drought conditions arriving this summer, conditions for explosive brush and forest fires across the Silver State has increased. Because of this, the Bureau of Land Management Carson City District Office has announced plans to begin statewide fire restrictions on public lands beginning Friday, July 16.

NHP: Driver killed in road racing event on Saturday in Storey County

A 37-year-old Las Vegas man was killed in a road racing accident in Storey County on Saturday. 
Alexander Djordjevic died at the scene after he lost control of his Porsche 911 during a sanctioned road racing event north of the Storey and Lyon county lines, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The 5.2-mile stretch of the two-lane highway had been closed to the public for two days between 8 a.m and 5 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday to facilitate a sanctioned road racing event, according to an NHP press statement.

Carson City Sheriff’s Protective Association endorses Guimont

Deputies of the Carson City Sheriff’s Protective Association have endorsed fellow officer Bob Guimont for the city's top elected law enforcement leadership position.

Of the 75 ballots cast, and 60 returned, Guimont racked up 45 votes, or 86.5 percent of the actual votes cast, followed by incumbent sheriff Ken Furlong with four votes and challenger Bob White, a sheriff's office captain, with three votes. Of the returned ballots, five were marked No Candidate and three of the votes were not counted because they were not sealed.

Truck center discussed for USA Parkway

While Gov. Jim Gibbons stood before reporters and snipped a ribbon marking the completion of grading of USA Parkway across Storey County last week, Vince Griffith was thinking about the next seven miles of the parkway.
