Marilyn “Mert” Lewis, a State Farm Insurance agent in Carson City, has recently earned qualifying membership in the prestigious Million Dollar Round Table.

The Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) is The Premier Association of Financial Professionals. Founded in 1927, MDRT provides its members with resources to improve their technical knowledge, sales and client service while maintaining a culture of high ethical standards.

MDRT is the internationally recognized standard of excellence in the life insurance and financial services profession.

Fernley man jailed after allegedly crashing stolen truck into State Farm insurance office

A 51-year-old man faces two felony charges after allegedly crashing a stolen truck into a State Farm insurance office in Fernley on Tuesday and then attempting to punch a Lyon County Sheriff's Office deputy.

Michael Shenkel of Fernley is being held on $25,500 bail. According to Lyon County Sheriff Sgt. Ryan Powell, deputies were called at 12:52 p.m. to the State Farm Office Building located at 79 Seventh Street for a report that a vehicle had struck the building.

You can still register for the race at www.race360.com or at CV Sports on February 12th from 5 to 8pm. Even though online registrations ends on Wednesday, there will be late registration available the day of the race.

Please join us on February 15th for the fourth annual Carson High School Safe Grad - Safe & Sober 5K Run/Walk. This event is organized by volunteers of the Safe Grad Committee.

Carson High Safe Grad program has been an annual tradition in Carson City for over 20 years. It provides our graduating seniors with a safe and sober, all night celebration on the evening of their graduation, followed by a trip to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom amusement park in Northern California.

Water pipes are vulnerable as temperatures drop into single digits

With night and early morning temperatures around Northern Nevada plummeting to single digits to below zero for the next few days, water pipes in homes with little or no insulation are likely to freeze and break when the temperature drops below 20 degrees.

Kids have a greater chance of being fatally injured by a car on Halloween than any other day of the year, including the Fourth of July and New Year’s Day. Carson City Chamber Leadership Institute Class of 2012 graduates

One of the finest classes of the Carson City Chamber of Commerce Leadership Institute graduated Thursday. Though a small class, they were mighty and bonded well. Over the course of 2012, they shared many wonderful experiences meeting community leaders and learning about our unique community. Following the graduation ceremony, the official dedication and ribbon cutting of the Carson City Senior Center Leisure Hour Room was held. Mayor Robert Crowell and Senior Center Director Janice McIntosh cut the ribbon as the new graduates looked on.

Celebrate teen drivers and help Carson High School win a $100,000 grant

A celebration designed to promote safe driving habits for teenagers is in the works for Carson City. State Farm is rallying communities nationwide to promote teen driver safety by hosting events such as the one on Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Carson City Farmers' Market at 3rd and Curry Street.
The program, co-sponsored by Western Nevada College, runs from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Events planned for the day will have unique elements and will generate buzz and excitement around teen driver safety.

Elaine and I just returned home from a special way to celebrate a special occasion. March 30 was our 10th wedding anniversary and we had wanted to do something out of the ordinary for that event.

When we were married 10 years ago, we took a 19 day honeymoon in Southeast Asia, which included Hong Kong, China; Singapore, Malaysia; Bangkok, Thailand; and the last eight days at Bali, Indonesia.
