South Lake Tahoe awarded $3 million grants to improve air quality
Submitted by editor on Tue, 05/31/2016 - 2:46pmThe city of South Lake Tahoe will receive $3 million through four federal grants that are designed to improve air quality and help reduce traffic congestion, officials announced Tuesday.
The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, in its role as Tahoe Metropolitan Planning Organization informed the city of South Lake Tahoe of the grant awards, which will be used lessen the amount of particulate matter in the air and traffic impact erosion that winds up in the lake.

In the 2015 session, the Legislature considered no fewer than 15 new or expanded programs intended to increase student achievement.
But... None of the proposals have anything to do with improving education in the only place where education takes place -- and can be improved -- IN THE CLASSROOM.
PK: Detractors of the program say research shows smaller class sizes have a mixed impact on student performance, and having a quality teacher in the room is more important than having fewer students.

The candidates participated in a structured debate moderated by Nevada Appeal Editor Adam Trumble.
As a group, they were asked questions on specific topics and each given two minutes to provide a response.

Under Reagan, Income Mobility Trumped Income Inequality

But income inequality is trumped by income mobility – the ability of people to improve their lot and of one generation to do better than its parents’ generation.
Applications being accepted for Carson City redevelopment facade improvement grants

The grant can be used to make improvements to the exterior of existing commercial buildings, including signs. The grant requires the property owner to pay at least half the cost of the improvements. A total of $200,000 has been allocated to the program.

National bridge report ranks Nevada structures as nation's best for second straight year

The American Road and Transportation Builders Association’s recently-released analysis of 2015 U.S. Department of Transportation bridge inventory data shows only 1.8 percent of Nevada’s approximately 1,900 public bridges being structurally deficient.

The visit was part of KNPB’s Ready To Learn workshops, which bring special learning topics into classrooms around the Reno-Sparks and Carson City areas.
