It’s Veterans and Military Day at the Legislature today, complete with a display of the various services available to our Veterans set up in the front foyer. On this day in 1982, a ground-breaking ceremony was held in Washington D.C. for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Carson City has a Vietnam Veterans Memorial of its own located in Mills Park. The memorial will be the site of a Welcome Home Celebration this Saturday for Vietnam Veterans Day.

Bill would ease restrictions on craft distilleries

Boutique distilleries that tout “grain to glass” spirits want to be able to sell more bottles directly to consumers, a move opposed by distributors who say allowing too many direct sales would upset Nevada’s wholesale and taxing protections....

The Proscenium Players present 'Polter-heist: A Hauntingly Hiliarious Murder Mystery Dinner Theater Show' in the Pinion Room of the Gold Dust West Hotel and Casino for three weekends, starting Feb. 13. For Friday and Saturday showings the doors open at 5:45, and the one champagne brunch showing on Feb. 22 will begin at 12:45pm. Tickets are $35- $38 and must be bought in advance.

Winter Wine and All That Jazz and Spirits 2015 this Saturday at the BAC campus

Sponsorships and Tickets available for Winter, Wine, Spirits and All That Jazz

The Brewery Arts Center's annual fundraiser, Winter, Wine, Spirits, and All That Jazz, is kicking it up a notch this year with more than 25 distilleries and wineries, music, performances and more and is seeking community support through sponsorships. Tickets are available now for the Jan. 17, 2015 event for $40 in advance and $50 at the door. You can access tickets through the Brewery Arts website at www.breweryarts.org. Pre-purchase is recommended, as tickets are limited.

Nevada 150 events lined up through the end of October

Many celebrations are scheduled throughout the Silver State in the month of October. These Nevada 150 events celebrate all things Nevada and help bring awareness to the 150th Anniversary of Statehood. The following events are held Oct. 16 through 30. Highlights of statewide Nevada Day weekend events are forthcoming.

On Friday Oct. 17, come watch the Nevada 150 Pony Express Delivery, on the south steps of the Nevada State Capitol Building in Carson City at 3:30 p.m.

Widows and Waifs: 22nd Annual Ghost Tour Explores the Haunted History of Carson City's West Side

Carson City’s spooky and intriguing history is explored and theatrically relived in the 22nd annual all day Carson City Ghost Walk Oct. 18. Tours depart from the corner of Third and Curry Streets starting at 10:00 AM and leaving every 30 minutes until the last walk at 2:30 PM. The Carson City Ghost Walk is a delightfully entertaining and enjoyable way to experience Carson City’s Victorian Era and diverse history.

Chamber golf tournament raises money to send Carson culinary team to competition

The Carson City Chamber held its fifth annual Chairman’s Golf Tournament at Silver Oak Golf on Friday to benefit Pro Start and Skills USA students at Carson High. Though the weather was cold, spirits were high and 39 golfers were able to raise $3,500 to send the culinary team to state competition.

The evening BBQ feast was prepared by a great group of kids that included BBQ ribs, sausages, chicken, mashed potatoes, salads, desserts, and more. Not your basic BBQ, by any means.

Nevada National Guard, Gov. Sandoval remember IHOP shooting victims in memorial run

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval joined more than two dozen soldiers and airman, sheriff’s deputies, firefighters and families Saturday to pay respects by jogging in a memorial run in Carson City to commemorate the four victims who died at the International House of Pancakes shooting on Sept. 6, 2011.

Shooting survivor Sgt. 1st Class Jeremy Mock and Gen. Michael Hanifan, commander of the Nevada Guard, led the pack of runners and walkers on the 5K route from the restaurant to the Guard complex on Fairview Drive in Carson City.

Nevada Guard Memorial Walk/Run Saturday in Carson City to commemorate IHOP shooting victims

Soldiers and Airmen of the Nevada Guard will participate in an informal memorial run/walk Saturday to commemorate the victims of the International House of Pancakes shooting on Sept. 6, 2011. The run/walk will start at the Carson City IHOP, 3883 S. Carson St., at 6 a.m.

Shooting survivor Sgt. 1st Class Jeremy Mock will lead a pack of Guard runners and walkers on a five-kilometer route from the restaurant to the Office of the Adjutant General complex at 2460 Fairview Drive in Carson City. Tracy Kelly, widow of Lt. Col. Heath Kelly, is set to greet the runners at the finish of the route.

Nevada 150 Sesquicentennial events lined up through September

The deadline to submit applications for Official and Signature Nevada 150 events will be 5:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12. Over 400 events have been held across the Silver State since Nevada Day 2013, in celebration of Nevada’s Sesquicentennial, with many more ahead. Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center named 5th 'Most Beautiful Hospital' in U.S.

Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center in Carson City has been recognized by Soliant Health, one of the largest healthcare staffing companies in the country, as the 5th Most Beautiful Hospital in the United States.

The initial hospitals were nominated and then a record setting number of 248,116 votes were tallied to determine the winners.

Beer Tasting at Aloha Benefits Local Blue Star Mothers' Work

Sierra Nevada Blue Star Moms hosts Beer and Pizza at Aloha Beer, Wine & Spirits, Sunday, June 1 from 2 to 4 p.m.
The public is invited to taste brews from several breweries, including Firestone, Sierra Nevada, Left Coast and others. Keep the logo glass, have some pizza while supporting the Blue Star Moms.
More than $3,000 in raffle prizes will also be given away.

Carson City Bartender Wins Cocktail Challenge

This past Monday, area bartenders, mixologists, and industry insiders descended upon the Reno Aces Stadium for the Wirtz Beverage Craft Spirits and Specialty Expo.

Six people, chosen at random, competed in an Iron Style Cocktail Competition: 10 minutes to create a beverage for the 4 US Bartenders Guild judges. Steven Sedillos, Adele's server and bartender/mixologist at The Blue Bull, tied for first place with his Basil-Berry Sparkler.

Nevada 150 events lined up statewide throughout April

Campers line up to be first at Buffalo Wild Wings grand opening

An all-ages group of nearly 200 set up camp Sunday night in front of the new Buffalo Wild Wings on South Carson Street in Carson City, each trying to be among the first 100 through the door at 11 a.m. Monday for the grand opening and chance to eat free wings for a year.

The Lodge to Host Halloween Party for Local Seniors

The Lodge Assisted Living Community invites all area seniors to celebrate Halloween at its monthly Senior Mingle. Party goers will enjoy devilish delights and spirits, ghoulishly good giveaways and eerie entertainment.

Everyone is encouraged to dress up for the event, as there will also be a costume contest with prizes.

V&T Halloween Spirit Train: A fundraiser to help cancer patients and their caregivers

Memorial Run for IHOP victims: 'We brought their spirits back'

About 50 Nevada Guardsmen arrived at the IHOP restaurant in Carson City while it was still dark this morning and hugged, prayed and mapped out their route for a 5 kilometer run back to their base in memory of the three soldiers and one civilian gunned down two years ago today.
