We are also reporting 99 new cases and 97 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 9,090, with 4,449 recoveries and 114 deaths; 4,527 cases remain active.

DETR: Rescheduled updates to Unemployment Insurance website to debut new look and improved navigation on claimant and employer login screens
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Sat, 12/26/2020 - 12:00pmThe Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) announced that in order to conduct regular system updates, they are temporarily taking the Unemployment Insurance (UI) website, ui.nv.gov offline on Saturday, December 26th from 6 AM to midnight, a period of lower traffic. During this time, individuals will not be able to file claims or access the resource materials.
PBS Reno's 'Wild Nevada' season 5 picked up for distribution by American Public Television

DETR: Initial claims for regular program see little change; Pandemic Unemployment Assistance initial claims remain elevated

How to recycle your Christmas Tree in Carson City and beyond

As in previous years, Christmas trees can be placed curbside on your regular trash collection day or taken to one of the drop off locations. Trees will be chipped in the springtime and used as mulch. This program continues to be a huge success.
Please remove all decorations, lights, tinsel and bases prior to recycling; if the tree is longer than six feet, cut the tree into pieces.

DETR: Most unemployment claim categories increase this week; Pandemic Unemployment Assistance initial claims increase significantly
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Sat, 12/12/2020 - 10:04amFor the week ending December 5, initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 8,783, up 2,341 claims, or 36.3 percent, compared to the previous week’s total of 6,442 claims, according to finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR). This is only the second increase in regular initial claims activity since October 24. Through the week ending December 5, there have been a total of 783,384 initial claims filed in 2020, 761,732 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.
Carson City health officials fight two battles: one against COVID-19, another against misinformation
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Fri, 12/11/2020 - 10:15amIn our region, as well as in many areas across the country, there have been massive spikes in COVID-19 transmissions over the past few months. Even as restaurants and bars were reopened, daily positive cases were generally staying within single digits inside the Quad-County region.
However, between October and December, both test positivity rates as well as overall cases — and deaths — have seen a massive increase. Local health organizations are now not only fighting against the disease, but against misinformation campaigns as well.
