Normally my weekend list is sorted by chronological start time, but for this one I will be separating out the downtown parade related activities for your ease. Remember, rain is expected on Friday and Sunday, so consider an umbrella if you don’t want your make-up to run!

“Heeere's Johnny!” The Shining returns to the big screen today at the Galaxy Theater, so get a jump on the weekends chills and thrills with some cult classic horror. For something much more family friendly, a Halloween Party at the Library includes fun crafts and a costume contest. Author Sandie LaNae of Thin Veil Investigators is the featured presenter tonight at Washoe Lake State Park. She’ll be discussing some of her discoveries in ‘Weird, Haunted Virginia City.’ A fun night of jazz awaits at Living the Good Life with Tom Stryker’s Impromptu. Hold onto your broomstick, this weekend is bound to sweep you up in Halloween fun. First you’ll need a pumpkin. The Harvest Train Festival and Pumpkin Patch at the Nevada State Railroad Museum is a good place to start. Take the costumed kids to a Trunk or Treat at Advantage Auto Works off Old Hot Springs Road courtesy of the members of Carson Cruise Meet and Greet. Team up with Mark Twain for a ghostly tour of our haunted downtown or you can choose a shorter tour that’s perfect for families. Keep reading, this is just the tip of the candy corn.

I’m usually a lover of sunny days, but right now I say bring on the rain. The moisture is a welcome help to our heroic firefighters in Lake Tahoe and Washoe Valley. Because of the wet weather and the recent fires, some activities have been postponed: most notably the Advocates to End Domestic Violence’s Annual Light After Dark Run. There are still plenty of things to occupy your time, but the weather may force more cancellations.

Hello there, Carson City. Wednesday has arrived and brings several options to help get you over the workweek hump. Geeks Who Drink Trivia at Westside Pour House, an open mic and jam at Firkin and Fox, and Jazz with Judith and Rocky at Living the Good Life all prove to be a good time. The Mayoral and Board of Supervisor candidates take the stage at the Brewery Art Center Performance Hall for another voter’s forum; the ballot question on Gas Tax Indexing will be discussed as well.

The weekend is here and you’ll find plenty to do in Carson City and the surrounding valleys. Run from zombies in Virginia City as the REDRUN obstacle race returns. The long-awaited Animal Shelter has been built and is now home to adoptable pets waiting for a home: take a tour at their open house after the 10 a.m. ribbon cutting. Street Vibes and the Candy Dance are always the endcap to September. Arts and crafts take over the small hamlet of Genoa this weekend; get a jump on your holiday gift list. All the other corners of Northern Nevada are a playground for the thousands of motorcycle riders and enthusiasts here to enjoy the bike rally. Battle Born Harley on Research Way offers a huge party without ever leaving the valley. Those two events are hardly all that Carson City and our neighboring counties have to offer, however. February 7 is best known as ‘Super Bowl Sunday’ and there are plenty of parties going on around town to help you cheer for your favorite team. The Denver Broncos square off against the Carolina Panthers at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, CA. Kickoff for Super Bowl 50 is at 3:25 p.m. and will air on CBS. Coldplay, Beyonce and Bruno Mars are scheduled to perform in this year’s halftime show.

Today, being hungry can be helpful. A benefit for fallen Deputy Carl Howell takes place today at Betsy’s Café inside Slot World with all café proceeds going to his family. This afternoon you can beat the heat and support the Western Nevada College Foundation at Yogurt Beach. Sheriff: Suspects in casino robbery remain at large, considered armed and dangerous

Two masked men who robbed a casino in the 300 block of East Winnie Lane in Carson City at around 9 p.m. Thursday night remain at large and are considered armed and dangerous, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Two completely masked male suspects entered the Slotworld Cabaret casino where one of the men pointed a .22 caliber pistol at two casino employees. The robbery occurred while the employees were preparing to close the business for the evening, said Furlong.

Armed robbery reported at Slotworld's Cabaret on East Winnie Lane

UPDATE: An armed robbery was reported shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday at Slotworld's Cabaret, 324 East Winnie Lane in Carson City. The robbery involved two adult male suspects, one with a skeleton mask and the other described as wearing a green jacket, according to Carson City dispatch.

Local casinos, bars participate in 'Most Valuable Driver' Super Bowl Sunday Koozie campaign

Be this year’s MVD — Most Valuable Driver — by being the designated driver on Super Bowl Sunday. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office in cooperation with Joining Forces and the Office of Traffic Safety have provided a limited number of water and cola Koozies to be given to those who choose to be designated drivers during the game.

They are designed in the shape of a football jersey and have been stamped with the MVD and Zero Fatalities Logo.

December's Empty Bowls Project in Carson City raises more than $2,700 for FISH

The Empty Bowls project, a locally organized fundraiser that culminated at the Carson City Silver and Snowflake Festival on Dec. 6 and was initiated to bring awareness of local hunger issues, raised $2,722.35 for Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH, which feeds, houses and provides services for more than 20,000 people in Carson City annually.

Crime Log: Carson City deputies arrest transient man

Carson City sheriff's deputies arrested Michael Jerrod Jacobsen, a 25-year-old transient, at around 12:30 this morning at the 300 block of Hot Springs Road. Jacobsen was arrested for misdemeanor obstructing, misdemeanor drug paraphernalia, a felony parole violation, and a previously existing felony warrant.
