Get your fill of sunshine today, we’ve got a wet wine walk weekend coming. The stars will be shining bright tonight, though, Western Nevada Musical Theater Company debuts its spring musical ‘Nice Work if You Can Get It’ complete with amazing choreography, melodies, and an exceptional cast. Cinco de Mayo parties all over town offer up food and drink specials, in addition to the fun times that can usually be found on a Friday night. Start the day with a cup of joe or a yummy blended drink at Dutch Brothers Coffee and you’ll be helping find a cure for ALS.

More beautiful weather is on its way. If I seem a little excited about a little bit of sunshine, its because I am, especially after this very long, gray, wet winter. Today we celebrate the Arts in Nevada at the Legislature and salute the painters, potters, makers, sculptors, singers, dancers, actors, writers, poets, and musicians that capture all that is Nevada in their work.

Attention singers: The Carson City Symphony Chorus will begin rehearsals on Tuesday, May 3, for outdoor performances with the Carson City Symphony at the Governor’s Mansion outdoors on June 11 and in Genoa on July 4. Rehearsals are Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. at the Choral Room in Carson High School, 1111 N. Saliman Road in Carson City.

Consort Canzona, a select group of instrumentalists and singers that specializes in early music, will present “A Royal Birthday Celebration” in two concerts in Carson City.

Have you ever had one of those weeks? Well, thank goodness it's Friday. Carson City will help you decompress and forget your troubles. Students, K-12 and University, will enjoy the free swim day at the Carson Hot Springs. The Carson Nugget is turning into quite the downtown hotspot with a different headlining comedian each Friday, in addition to live music in two places. The Brewery Arts Center, Carson City’s premiere epicenter for the arts since 1976, presents the eclectic sounds of Marina V and Athena McIntyre.

For 16 years, Mile High Jazz Band has been playing at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson Street, on the second Tuesday of every month. Come celebrate this milestone with us on Tuesday, April 11. Hear sensational big-band music with vocalist Cindee LeVal and enjoy anniversary cake at intermission.

April showers are bringing some unusual blooms to the Legislative lawn. Join Prevent Child Abuse Nevada and Advocates to End Domestic Violence in the annual planting of the pinwheels. On Saturday, April 8 at 7 p.m. in the MHJ Black Box Theater, Brewery Arts Center continues the Celtic Music series with Richard Johnson. A ballad singer and a lifelong guitarist, Richard loves songs from the American and Irish traditions, the classic melodies of the 40’s, songs from his own generation and his own original songs.

They say March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. We’ve survived the freakish lamb-lion hybrid of March and we’ve survived the week, so let’s celebrate. This Friday and Saturday, Youth Theatre Carson City will give three performances of its production of George M. Cohan’s "Give My Regards to Broadway" a toe-tapping Broadway fairytale, in the Bob Boldrick Theatre at the Carson City Community Center.

Irish eyes are smiling on us: it’s going to be a gorgeous day. You won’t have to look far for some green beer, whiskey, or corned beef – there will be St. Patrick’s Day parties all over. Live music is on the menu, as well. Choose from Men of Worth at the Brewery Arts Center, an all ages punk show at Sassafras, or Stereo Galaxy in the McFadden Plaza, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The brave ones will be at the St. Baldrick Fundraiser at Red’s Old 395 where you’ll see some heads shaved for a good cause. Where ever you end up, just make sure you have a plan to get home safely.

It’s finally Friday. The annual Salvation Army Turkey Drive runs 6 a.m. until six this evening: drop off your donation at the Max Casino in Carson or at the C.O.D. Casino in Minden. Travel back in time with the Carson Chamber Singers in Concert featuring Requiem for the Living and music of the Renaissance at the Shepherd of the Sierra Church. The popcorn is always free at the monthly Carson City Classic Cinema Club’s movie viewing.

Let’s just call this Nevad-oween weekend. So much crazy fun awaits: whether it’s the celebration of our ‘new’ downtown, Halloween parties for kids and adults alike, or our State Museum’s 75th Anniversary. Start your day at the Museum, hang around for the downtown ribbon cutting and festivities, then join in the costumed fun as Blinky Man hits the streets. Do the time warp at the Brewery Arts Center: the Rocky Horror Picture Show Party starts at 8:30 p.m. This is going to be one amazing weekend, so let’s get this party started.

As Nevada looks to observe its statehood this weekend, the Washoe tribe is also planning a celebration of its heritage.

“The Washoe tribe has been here 18,000 to 25,000 years,” said Martin Montgomery, who is organizing the powwow through the Red Hoop Singers. “It’s all a collaboration of community.”
