The 20th Annual Snowshoe Thompson Ski & Snowshoe Celebration returns once again to the Sierra on Saturday, March 7 at 9:00 am, at the Lake Tahoe Golf Course in South Lake Tahoe.

Snow or no snow, event activities begin with a guided tour starting at 9:30 am with Norwegian native and longboard ski expert Nina MacLeod, who will also give a longboard ski demonstration if sufficient snow is present. Attendees should bring their own snowshoes and cross country skis.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the South Carson Complete Streets Project groundbreaking ceremony, the International Film Festival held Friday and Saturday at the Carson City Community Center and Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada celebrate National Girl Scout Cookie weekend with door-to-door cookie sales. With sunny skies and daytime highs in the 50s, Tuesday is shaping up to be a great day around the capital city. Muscle Powered will host morning and evening walks, plus there's an assortment of meetings, club gatherings, art showings, a local school board meeting and more. At the end of the day, there's no better way to cap off the evening than by celebrating, with your sweetheart, music about love. That will be what's happening at Living the Good Life as Mile High Jazz Band and our celebrated vocalist Jakki Ford will do just that presenting "Jazz Sampler for Sweethearts." Read on for details.

Heading into the last weekend of January there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include a Chinese New Year Celebration at the Nevada State Museum and the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada. The Carson Comedy Club hosts its first Military Appreciation Night on Friday at the Carson Nugget. Carson Valley’s 18th annual Eagles and AG Photo Contest will be underway and live music will keep the Silver State buzzing with excitement. Read on for more information.

Events include the Nevada Artists Association New Year’s Show, and there’s a historical Curry family presentation at the Nevada State Museum. Famed country rock band I See Hawks in L.A. perform at the Historic Silver City Schoolhouse on Saturday. Come celebrate the new year with popular local band, The Lost Reverends of the High Sierra in the Cabaret in Casino Fandango, 3800 South Carson St., New Year’s Eve from 9:00PM until 1:00AM.

The Lost Reverends are well known for their fun and energetic shows, covering genres such as rock, blues, country and even a show tune or two. Front man and lead singer, Dougie L is also known to bust out some American Songbook classics from the likes of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Tony Bennett and others.

Celebrate New Year's early with TOCCATA: Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus's new cnocert: "Bring on the Bubbly/Adios 2019." Join us at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 29 in the elegant Genoa Lakes Golf Club Ballroom. Pre-concert champagne and hors d'oeuvres at 3 p.m.

Join local musician Kingwhistler and other local favorites for "Holiday Homeward with Kingwhistler and friends," a concert to celebrate the season.

Kingwhistler will be joined by Jenera Paxton and Josh Procaccini, and other guest musicians include Keith Alan Barnett, Craig Logan, Ross Wylde and Ten Dollar Pony.

Our favorite local pond monster has made a return to her drainage pond near the Post Office.

With activities lining up around the capital city through the weekend, Thursday events around the region include a meeting of the Healthy Communities Coalition in Silver Springs, an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, and a Carson City CASA volunteer information hour and training seminar. Along the music front, CHS Band will host its winter concert at the Carson City Community Center and our own local country music star and Nashville recording artist Art Mulcahy will be at Jimmy G's. Observant travelers in Northern Nevada are reporting numerous reindeer sightings along the 85 mile stretch of US 395 between Bordertown, on the north, and Lake Topaz, on the south.

The Willow Reindeer herd now has 3,000 individually crafted works of art. Each reindeer has been signed by the local elementary students that have created it over the past 22 years. With an average of 20 students per class, there have been over 60,000 local children involved in the massive local art project.

Chautauqua characters Snowshoe Thompson, Lillian Virgin and Anna Harris return to Genoa, Nev., on Saturday, Nov. 23 5 p.m., at the Genoa Town Hall.

This Chautauqua event features Genoa residents of the past. Chautauquans include Steve Hale as Snowshoe Thompson, the legendary “Mailman of the Sierra”, Kim Harris as Lillian Virgin, the originator of the Genoa Candy Dance and DebiLynn Smith as Anna Harris, early Genoa pioneer business owner.

“Well, it is a good question! Maybe one of the answers is that what keeps my life comfortable, is knowing that when I have the opportunity to help others, I will do it. If I had not gone, I think I would not have felt comfortable with my life, sitting down and doing nothing” Lior Singer answered.

As night falls but before the stars shine, the gloaming can be spectacular. Country singer Nikki Lane is destined to be a star, and an audience of about 250 watched her glow on Saturday in the Crystal Bay Casino.

Events include the 100th annual Candy Dance in Genoa, the Carson City Community Center Garage Sale, free walks at Nevada State Parks, Virginia City’s Street Vibrations Fall Rally, the 31st annual All-Breed Dog Shows, The Beatles Flashback tribute band concert and much more!

Tyler Stafford is a Reno singer/songwriter with a fresh new album and plans to throw a killer party this Saturday to celebrate.

The Brewery Arts Center in Carson City brings a triple-shot of music, food and film as it combines its wheeled food Wednesday event with the Jazz and Beyond festival and an outdoor viewing of the Oscar-winning classic 1960 musical "West Side Story."

Having made it through the first day of school in Carson City, it is onward and upward as we head into Tuesday, August 20, 2019. Events around the area include fitness hikes and bike ride, a free floral design class at Silver City School House, art showings and Congressman Mark Amodei at Casino Fandango. The movie trailer for "Top Gun: Maverick" where segments of the production were filmed at Lake Tahoe, was released Thursday by Paramount Pictures.

"Top Gun: Maverick" is the sequel to 1986's blockbuster "Top Gun." In true dramatic fashion, the trailer builds up the story of the Tom Cruise character Maverick as the new flight instructor of the Top Gun school.

Pop music superstar Justin Timberlake just amped up the celebrity wattage at the American Century Championship, expanding the field of luminaries for the 30th annual golf tournament at Lake Tahoe, July 9-14.
