Got kids? The Boys and Girls Club is where you want to be today for the Second Annual Early Childhood Expo. Curious George and Clifford the big red dog can’t wait to say hello. Sierra Plays VC and Pyramid Lake in Friday/Saturday Games

Sierra Lutheran had some fantastic games this weekend. JV girls and boys and varsity girls won their games. Varsity boys were less fortunate, but still played with great enthusiasm and sportsmanship.

Sierra Lutheran Hosts Dinner Auction Fundraiser for Northern Nevada Tuition Assistance

Enjoy fine dining, student performances, and unique opportunities while supporting local students and families! Please join us for our annual dinner and auction on Saturday, March 5, 2016. Doors open at 5pm.

Activities include an elegant dinner prepared by The Carson Valley Inn, silent auction for unique gifts and activities, live auction for vacation and party packages, as well as drawings (Dollar$ for Scholar$) for a $500 Amazon gift card, a $500 Home Depot card and a $500 gas card.

Sierra Lutheran Teacher Named Carson City Rotary Teacher of the Month

Most science teachers do just that: They teach science. But at Sierra Lutheran High School, a small, private school of 124 students in between Carson City and Minden, Marty Kois teaches earth science, biology, business math, test prep, and theater.

Sierra Lutheran Plays Excel Christian in Homecoming Match

The varsity girls continued their teamwork and dedication as they played Excel Christian on Friday. It was a quick game, Sierra taking the lead early and keeping it. The final score came out to be 45-9. Grace Bonafede had 14 points and 13 rebounds, 7 offensively and 6 defensively.

Brynna Hansen had 14 rebounds, 6 offensively and 8 defensively, 1 steal, and 3 points. Kirsten Iverson had 9 points, 1 assist, and 2 steals.

Sierra Lutheran Hosts Mini Cheer Camp

The Sierra Lutheran High School Cheerleaders are hosting their annual Mini Falcon Cheer Camp (for boys and girls grades K-5) on Saturday, February 6th, from 1:00-4:30pm. Performance at a Girls Varsity Game is included in the program (Game starts at 4:00pm; the attendee’s family will be admitted at no cost). Students will learn cheers, a band dance, jumps, and participate in a craft. Cost is $35 per student ($25 for each additional sibling), and includes poms for girls, megaphones for boys, and a snack). SLHS National Honors Students Raise $6,300 for Local Family

During the holiday season, there seems to be an influx of general goodwill and charity. However, for the students at Sierra Lutheran High School, there was a tangible sense of enthusiasm at the last chapel service of the year.

When you think of Thanksgiving break, you typically think of family, turkey dinner, and football. But Heather Kois’ students at Sierra Lutheran High School were thinking of something entirely different: word count. For her creative writing class, November was National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo for short).

ALL grade school students (1st-8th grade) and their families are invited to attend one or more of the SLHS home basketball games on Saturday. Admission is free; there will be a snack bar, giveaways, half-time shooting games, and more.

Ready for the weekend, Carson City? The weather should hold up on Saturday, but no promises on Sunday. Hit the slopes if you are so inclined, several Tahoe resorts have opened for the season. Runners should head out to Washoe Lake State Park for the first of the Be Bold, Run in the Cold series sponsored by Ascent Runs. If you prefer something warmer, head to Crossroads Lounge for their Grand Re-opening. It’s under new ownership and is sure to have something to keep you toasty.

Go Big Blue! The Carson Senators head into the varsity football regional finals against North Valleys High School. Bundle up and cheer on our high school. Sierra Lutheran High School’s theater department is presenting Borrowed Time; break a leg. Mary Poppins returns for its second weekend at the Community Center. The Western Nevada Musical Theater Company has outdone themselves this season, so hurry and get tickets or you may miss out.

No need to wait for black Friday or Small Business Saturday to get a jump on your holiday shopping. Western Nevada College’s annual Craft Fair is today, as is Santa’s Village at the Carson City Senior Center. Support local artists and crafters while finding a one of a kind gift for your loved ones. If you have a book-lover on your list, a book signed by local author Ken Beaton is easy to acquire. Browser’s Corner is holding a meet and greet with him this evening.

Sierra Lutheran High School Theater Department Presents comedy 'Borrowed Time'

SLHS Theater Department Presents its latest production, "Borrowed Time." The community is invited to enjoy this comedy put on by students.

It runs Nov. Thursday, Nov. 12 through Saturday, Nov. 14. Doors Open at 6 p.m., Show Begins: 6:30 p.m. Saturday Matinee at 2 p.m.

Sierra Lutheran Runs Well at State XC

On Saturday, Nov. 7, Sierra Lutheran competed at the Division III/IV Nevada State Meet in Reno, at Rancho San Raphael Regional Park. Out of the 42 runners in the girls’ competition, Elaina Marchegger came in 1st with a time of 20:12.

The Sierra Lutheran Girls Team came in 2nd overall. Individually, sisters Claire and Taylor Davison came in 9th and 10th, with times 22:32 and 22:59 respectively. Freshman Emily McNeely came in 12th with an impressive time of 23:18, and Senior Emma Herron achieved 17th with 23:58.

SLHS Students Are College Ready and College Bound

In the 2014-2015 school year, Nevada joined 12 other states in requiring all high school juniors to take the ACT. By their own admission, this requirement comes as the Nevada Department of Education tries to discern the level of college readiness that public high schools are providing. This year alone, Nevada colleges reported that nearly one-third of their students needed to enroll in remedial courses.

SLHS Girl's Golf Team Attends Division III State Meet

On Oct. 12-13, the Sierra Lutheran Girl’s Golf team attended the Division III State Meet in Ely, NV. All of the girls played well; Kami Niles placed 6th overall. This marks the beginning of a great program at Sierra Lutheran, and the students on this year’s roster (three are sophomores, one is a junior) are excited for next year.

Falcons Achieve Triumphant Win Over Smith Valley

On Saturday, the Sierra Lutheran Falcons battled fiercely again the Smith Valley Bulldogs. It was a tough game, played in the wind and rain at Smith’s home field. Smith Valley won the coin toss, choosing to start on offense during their homecoming game.

'Are You Smarter Than a Falcon?' Academic Olympic Event

On October 26th, 6-8pm, Sierra Lutheran High School will be hosting an Academic Olympic Event called "Are You Smarter Than a Falcon?"
Teams comprised of six people will go head-to-head with the Falcons Academic Olympic team who was the runner-up in state competition last year, and have placed in the top four in the state for the past eleven years. The community is invited to participate by either creating a team and competing, or coming out to watch the festivities. If interested in registering a team, please contact tseddon@slhs.com.

Sierra Lutheran High School Hosts 7th and 8th Grade Visit

Sierra Lutheran High School will be hosting a 7th and 8th Grade Visitation day on Monday, Oct. 12, from 9 a.m. to noon.
A free lunch will be provided. Students will have opportunities to tour the school, meet faculty and current students, participate in activities, and hear about the various academic, athletic, and arts programs available. Although “every day at Sierra Lutheran is an open house,” this is the perfect opportunity for prospective students to come preview all that Sierra Lutheran has to offer.

SLHS Alumni is Named an NCAA, NJCAA National Athlete of the Week

Nathanael Williams, Colorado Mines Junior and former Sierra Lutheran High School Falcon, has been named the NCAA Division II National Athlete of the Week (Week of September 21, 2015). In addition, he was also named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week (Week of September 21, 2015), and the Colorado Mines’ Athlete of the Month for the month of September.

The grass is getting greener at Sierra Lutheran High School. By the end of this month, a brand new P.E. and athletics field will be completed behind the school.

Sierra Lutheran High School Outdoor Athletic Facility Taking Shape

Miles Construction has been retained as general contractors for the 2.3-acre multi-purpose athletic field taking shape at Sierra Lutheran High School​ in Carson City.

The new field, a natural grass multipurpose venue capable of hosting football, soccer, lacrosse and the school’s physical education classes, provides a dedicated athletics facility for the school as well as an additional sports venue for the Douglas County and Carson City communities. Project completion is targeted for fall 2015.

Carson City schools begin 'Trick or Treat' Halloween food drive for FISH

Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH, will begin its annual “Trick or Treat for FISH” food drive Wednesday, Oct. 15. Carson City schools will participate in a contest for the students to collect non-perishable food to replenish the inventory at the FISH food bank. The food drive will run until Nov. 3 and will give FISH a boost for the high demand of the holiday season.
