Bomb squad called after grenade brought to Carson City Sheriff's Office for disposal

UPDATE 12:04PM: The grenade has been disposed by the Tahoe Douglas Bomb Squad. Musser Street in front of the Carson City Sheriff's Office is now open.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office was alerted late Tuesday morning to an explosive device that was left at the administration building by a person who wanted to dispose it. The device was carried outside by Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Carson City swears in four new deputies, number of officers equal to pre-recession says Sheriff

In a swearing in ceremony held Thursday afternoon, four additional deputies were sworn into service for the Carson City Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Ken Furlong said during the ceremony the number of sworn officers are now up to pre-recession 2010 levels.

Inmate resuscitated after attempted hanging at Carson City Jail

An inmate at the Carson City Jail has been resuscitated and transported for emergency medical care after an attempted hanging Sunday, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said.

The inmate was transported breathing but unconscious, Furlong said.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office is investigating human remains that were discovered by a hiker around noon Tuesday in the hills north of Carson City in the Goni area.

Column: No, there wasn't a homicide in Indian Hills this week, but it's understandable to still be concerned

Community members of Douglas County and Carson City, and even our neighbors in Washoe County, took to social media Monday discussing whether or not there was another homicide in Indian Hills, which, according to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong, did not occur. While there was a death that occurred inside one of the residences, there was no suspicion of foul play.

In the aftermath of the tragic four killings in our neighborhoods, it’s understandable to still be on high alert. A 19-year-old man residing in Carson City by the name of Wilbur Ernesto Martinez-Guzman was arrested in connection with the four crimes on Saturday.

However, conspiracy theories have begun to run rampant on social media that either it wasn’t Guzman, or that he didn’t act alone.

President Trump tweets about Reno, Gardnerville homicides; murder charges forthcoming

A murder investigation involving slayings in Reno and Gardnerville in which a 19-year-old man was arrested Saturday in Carson City in connection to the killings has caught the attention of U.S. President Donald Trump who turned to Twitter on Monday to push for a wall he wants built along the United States and Mexico border.

News reports person taken into custody in Carson City

UPDATE 1:02AM: Multiple news sources, including South Tahoe Now and KOLO TV Channel 8 News Now, are now reporting that a person in connection with the investigation into a double homicide in South Reno is in custody, Washoe County Sheriff's spokesman Bob Harmon reportedly told the sources.
It was reported earlier that a connection had not yet been made with the information at hand.

Elderly couple dead in double homicide, investigators say similarities to Douglas murders

UPDATE: 1/18/19 at 3:15PM: According to a story in the Reno Gazette Journal today, the elderly couple found dead in their South Reno home Wednesday have been identified by friends as Jerry and Sherri David. Jerry David was a former president of the Reno Rodeo Association.
The identities of the elderly couple still have not been released by the Washoe County Sheriff's Office, which is leading the investigation into their deaths that have been ruled homicides.

An elderly man and woman died as a result of homicide at their south Reno residence after their bodies were discovered Wednesday, the Washoe County Sheriff's Office confirmed during a press conference.

Douglas County Sheriff: Suspect in Gardnerville area murders remains at large

Stolen vehicle leads Carson City Sheriff's deputies on pursuit into Washoe Valley

UPDATE SUNDAY: A man was arrested Saturday night in the North Valley area of Washoe County by Nevada Highway Patrol troopers and a Carson City sheriff's sergeant following a pursuit involving a stolen vehicle that began in Carson City, said Sheriff Ken Furlong. The Carson City suspect, now in Washoe County custody, was arrested at around 8:30 p.m.

According to Furlong, CCSO scaled back its pursuit once it crossed the county line but followed the suspect vehicle through Washoe Valley. The vehicle crashed and the suspect attempted to flee but was caught by arriving CCSO and NHP officers. The suspect faces charges related to the pursuit, driving a stolen vehicle and being a felon in possession of a firearm, said Furlong.

An attempted traffic stop on a vehicle identified as stolen out of Sparks turned into a failure to yield and a pursuit by Carson City Sheriff's deputies into Washoe Valley Saturday night.

Sheriff's Office investigates death of woman in South Carson City

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovered death of a woman found Monday at her home in the 900 block of Armstrong Lane in south Carson City, said CCSO Sheriff Ken Furlong.
