Following a February court decision to grant a motion for a preliminary injunction to stop the proposed roundup of more than 300 wild horses in the Nevada Pine Nut Herd Management Area, the Bureau of Land Management Sierra Front Field Office announced this week that it has canceled the roundup with a date to be determined.

A 54-year-old Reno man was arrested Monday on a felony charge of failing to register as a sex offender, a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy said. Joseph Bartley was arrested at 8:02 a.m. in the 2900 block of South Carson Street.

The Carson City deputy responded to the area of Fairview Drive and South Carson Street in an attempt to locate a dark-colored Ford pickup that was reckless on the road.

Due to a ruling by the California Court of Appeals, the City of South Lake Tahoe can no longer enforce their sex offender ordinance that made it a misdemeanor for sex offenders to be within 300 feet of a school, park or recreation areas.

At its May 20, 2014 meeting, the South Lake Tahoe City Council had to repeal the ordinance. To be official, the City Council will have a second reading and vote on the item in June.

A 24-year-old Carson City woman was arrested early Tuesday on suspicion of unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, a gross misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

A Carson City man was jailed Tuesday on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly broke into the home of his ex-girlfriend and threatened to kill himself and her with a semi-automatic handgun.

Carson City Sheriff’s office detectives arrested 52-year-old man Tuesday morning for failing to register as a sex offender. Steven Houston was arrested in the 1300 block of Ashby Court by law officers.

Detectives served Houston an advisement letter to register within 48 hours from the Nevada Department of Public Safety Sex Offender Registration Unit last Thursday evening. Houston ignored his obligation to register as a convicted sex offender and was arrested, according to a news release.
