Carson High School’s HOSA — Future Health Professionals, one of four Career Technical Student Organizations that are part of the CHS Career and Technical Education program, sent more than 100 students to compete in the state HOSA Future Health Professionals Leadership Conference in Las Vegas this month thanks to a $4,400 grant from Partnership Carson City and fundraising efforts by students.

Anthony Aguilar and Jack Wilson, both 13-year-old eighth-graders at Eagle Valley Middle School gave a demonstration on how to work a robotic arm at the annual Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math Night.

“You can move it up or down or also turn the rotation of the claw,” explained Anthony. He showed how to pick up different items with it.

CARSON CITY, Nev. – Carson City’s mayor, Robert “Bob” Crowell, filed for re-election Monday, March 7, at the Carson City County Clerk’s office.

Crowell said Carson City is realizing a momentous achievement 10 years in the making as the city marked the groundbreaking of the downtown corridor and infrastructure improvement project as was approved by the voters in Envision 2006, the Carson City master plan, also on Monday, March 7.

Like all students of Carson High School over the past 16 years, Honors Student Tyler Warren, since his freshman year, thought about what he would be doing for his senior project, a graduation requirement for every student who hopes to receive a diploma from CHS.

The staff of Carson High School and Douglas High School have agreed to a rivalry basketball game to be played Nov. 19 at DHS. The staff basketball game is a fundraiser for the Peace Officer’s Memorial Fund.
Multiple members of each of the school’s staff will be on hand to battle it out on the basketball court and continue the rivalry, but for a good cause. Come support the Senators or the Tigers and be sure to wear your favorite school’s colors.

Carson City is the recipient of a three-year, $375,000 U.S. Department of Justice Community Oriented Policing grant that will fund three resource officers for the Carson City School District, Sheriff Ken Furlong announced Friday.

Carson City is the recipient of a three-year, $375,000 U.S. Department of Justice Community Oriented Policing grant that will fund three resource officers for the Carson City School District, Sheriff Ken Furlong announced Friday.

The grant award tops off a three-year effort to develop a Carson City School Resource Officer Program, dedicated to the schools and functionally operated out of the sheriff’s office, said Furlong. The grant provides for salaries and benefits of three officers who will work alongside youth 12 months a year both inside and outside the classroom.

Carson High School’s 21st Century Learning Center grant is expanding this year to include support labs open to all students. These labs, which run Tuesday-Thursday from 2-4 p.m., will include tutoring in English, math and science, as well as tutoring targeted to struggling freshmen and sophomores.

Carson City Schools continues on their path to provide a laptop for every student in the district. The Carson City School Board discussed the continuation of the 1:1 mobile project in the schools.

The Carson City School Board is trying to enact new policies towards bullying and cyber bullying that will create a more clear and comprehensive definition and regulation of the issue.

A foundation to help raise money for the Carson City School District will be launched next week during a reception at Carson High School.

“Our only mission is to support the kids in the community,” said Ian Hill, chairman of the foundation’s board. “For the first time, we’re going to be joining together all the people who care deeply about the Carson City School District.”

Carson City leaders were sworn into office today at the Carson City Courthouse. Carson City Mayor Robert Crowell presided with the oath of office taken by District Court Judge James T. Russell and James E. Wilson Jr.

The Instrumental Music Department, Bands and Orchestra, is having its annual Winter Holiday Concert on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 7 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. Donations are welcome. Meanwhile, Carson High School has had a number of their singing Senators recognized for their vocal talents already this year.

Common Core is the latest loop in the death spiral of American education since the first “progressive” reforms a hundred years ago. The more “reforms,” the worse our schools.

You protest and you protest, but the educrat establishment ignores everything you say if you don’t agree with them and their “experts.”

Common Core is not on the ballot. Nevertheless yes, you can:

1. Stay up to date with your child’s homework and progress in school. Look at what they are taught in school.

2. Talk to other parents. Compare notes, share experiences.

Candidates for Carson City Board of Supervisors and School Board Trustees will have the opportunity to state their positions on a range of questions at 6 p.m. tonight, Thursday, during a candidates forum hosted by the League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, Sierra Nevada Forums and American Association of University Women.

This Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Carson High School Health Occupations Students of America members will host car wash and rummage sale in the U at the front of the school. Pre-sale car wash tickets are $3 and can be purchased from any HOSA student. The cost will go up to $5 the day of the car wash. All proceeds go to help send HOSA students to State and National conferences to compete and represent Carson City.

The League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, in conjunction with Sierra Nevada Forums and American Association of University Women, has announced a series of election forums to be held Sept. 22 through Sept. 30 in Carson City. The forums will present both candidates for races and ballot proposition questions that will be on the ballot for the general election on November 4. The public is invited to attend these forums, which will be held at the Carson City Community Center, Sierra Room. Doors open at 5:30 and the forum begins at 6:00 each evening.
