‘Break a leg’ to the talented kids in Wild Horse Children’s Theater. Their newest production, ‘Junie B. Jones, Jr.' opens at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall tonight. An estimated 24 runners and walkers got their bodies moving Saturday morning during the eighth annual Carson High Safe and Sober 5k Run/Walk.

Hold onto your hats, Carson City, we’re in for a busy weekend. Several events over the last few weeks were re-scheduled due to weather: today you’ll find the make-up for The Greenhouse Project's Early Spring Plant Sale and the Carson High Safe Grad 5K Run/Walk. Get your Roller Derby fix with a scrimmage and a Junior Victory Rollers bout against Santa Cruz. The Bob Boldrick Theater at the Community Center is where you’ll find ‘Carson’s Got Talent.' Cheer on your favorite local performer and help raise funds for the Senior Center’s Meals on Wheels Program. You’ll have to keep reading, this is just the tip of the fun-time iceberg.

Okay. This is one of the hardest weekend lists I’ve ever had to do. This dump of snow has cancelled some events, but others are in full force. Best I can tell, St. Patrick’s Day parties are not deterred by a little snowfall. There will be no parade in Virginia City, but the Rocky Mountain Oyster Fest is on. Head to downtown Carson for more green beer, Irish music, and corned beef and cabbage than you’ll know what to do with.

This Friday, March 16 the Carson City Sheriff’s Office will conduct an alcohol compliance check. Minor decoys will be sent into local businesses in Carson City that serve alcohol. The decoys will attempt to purchase alcohol, using their real identification.

High school students in times past might remember the sports they played and the clubs in which they participated, but how many of them had the fun and excitement of seeing a group of strangely dressed senior boys vying for the title Mr. Carson High?

Freshman health classes were the first reached in February. The JROTC students and health science classes are next.

It’s been a cold week, and today is no exception, but you can have a hot time tonight. Live music, comedy, and karaoke are just some of your nightlife options. It’s family BINGO and Chili night at Carson Middle School: get some grub, maybe win one of the great prizes, and help the CMS Band Program raise funds. Dayton has a BINGO night of its own. Head to Dayton High School to get in on the action. It’s opening night for the Proscenium Players. Their production of ‘Love Letters’ runs for one weekend only, so get your tickets early. A great beginning to a new year starts with safety first, and the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with Carson City School District and Partnership Carson City, is promoting its Safe and Sober New Year’s for all Carson City youth by offering support to any middle school or high school student having a get-together on New Year’s Eve.

Muscle Powered, Citizens for a Walkable and Bikeable Carson City, recently received a $2000 grant from Nevada Department of Transportation Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board to facilitate a video competition to create public service announcements about the dangers of texting and driving.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the Carson City School District and Partnership Carson City is promoting a safe and sober New Year’s Eve for our town’s youth. Any middle or high school students who are having a get together on New Year’s Eve are encouraged to invite your School Resource Officer.

The day may start out cold and wet, but nothing can rain on a three-day weekend. Tomorrow we observe Veterans Day, and say thank you to those who have fought for freedom and liberty. It definitely feels like soup weather, so it’s only appropriate that the Carson Chamber of Commerce is hosting one of their ‘Soup’s On’ Lectures.

Bet your bottom dollar that it will be a great weekend. Wild Horse Children’s Theater finishes up its spring production of ‘Annie, Jr: The Musical,’ so don’t miss your chance to catch these talented kids on stage. Muscle Powered will be out and about for their monthly Trash Mob and invite you to help clean up a little corner of our valley. The Annual Polar Plunge at Zephyr Cove is a brave way to help the Special Olympics raise money, and the costumes get wilder every year. Keep reading and enjoy the weather before the clouds return.

If everything goes as planned, the sun will finally make an appearance. That’s good news for those running in the Carson High Safe and Sober 5K or in Ascent Runs’ Love Can Be Cold 5/10K at Prison Hill. I just keep telling myself that the spring flowers will be amazing this year, but honestly, I’m growing weary of all this rain. Several of our hiking and bike trails have been affected, the sports fields are a muddy mess, and we are still in danger of more flooding.

It is time for a great workout at Carson High School to both support its students and potentially win a race, not to mention avoid a heart attack.

The seventh annual Safe and Sober 2017 5K Run/Walk at the CHS track facility, presented by Carson High Safe Grad Booster, is set for Feb. 11.

Carson High School students are currently working with great intensity to fulfill their Senior Projects, a graduation requirement.

All those involved encourage students to pursue a personal interest, something to benefit others, or something to prepare themselves for their future.

The weekend has arrived, and it is packed with things to do. Pull on your cowboy boots and head out to the Cowboy Festival in Genoa. Head out to the ballfield: the WNC Wildcats softball and baseball teams are playing at home today and tomorrow. It’s the final weekend of the Proscenium Players production of Harvey; get ready for a great show. The Carson High Safe Grad Boosters held its annual Safe and Sober 5K Run/Walk Saturday at Carson High School. People of all ages participated in the event to raise awareness on the dangers of consuming alcohol and other drugs, and to promote responsible behavior from the Class of 2016.

It’s only Thursday, but I expect that you have one eye on the weekend. Super Bowl, the wine walk, and the Carson High Safe Grad 5K are just around the corner. Get a jump on the fun with some karaoke at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar, line dancing at Beercade, or music at Living the Good Life. Congratulations to the amazing kids waiting to be honored tonight at the Boys and Girls Club Annual Awards Celebration.
