Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities over the next three days. Restaurants in Carson City will host Valentine’s Day specials on Friday. The Carson City Celtic Music series will be at the Brewery Arts Center on Saturday featuring Fortunate Strangers. Combined with live music and comedy at the Carson Nugget, the Carson City region is in store for a busy three days. Read on for more information.

Early Voting for the Democratic Presidential Caucus will be held at the Dayton Senior Center Saturday, Feb. 15 only from 10am to 6pm. Nevada's Democrats will have an opportunity to cast early votes for up to five candidates, in preference order, who are still in the running for delegates to the county, state and national conventions that will select the Democratic nominee for November's presidential election. Bob Cashell, the former longtime mayor of Reno and Nevada lieutenant governor known for his big personality, died on Tuesday. He was 81.

Jim Bauserman, a family friend, confirmed the news to The Nevada Independent. Community leaders, including current Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve, offered tributes on Tuesday.

Bo-Keito is a one-year-old Blue-tick Coonhound and has had a difficult time finding a forever home. He was actually adopted from the shelter, but was returned just after Christmas, which is incredibly sad.

Winterfest is here, and the theme, Carson's Got Game, is more than just a nice motto, it is a series of multiple physical board games, playground games, and video games. According to CHS physical education teacher and Leadership adviser Ann Britt, “the class color teachers will be playing a game of life-size Hungry Hippo during the assembly Jan. 17, and we will be doing a door decorating competition with judging taking place Jan. 21; the top three winners will receive a gift card to Starbucks.”

I have had a lot of opportunity knock on my door lately. It seems from the moment I open my eyes in the morning, I am going non-stop on everything from my new radio show on KNVC (Business Therapy, Mondays and Wednesdays 7:30 to 8 a.m.) to the needs of a variety of companies. Honestly, it can get a little overwhelming. It’s overwhelming until I realize there a sure-fire cure for overwhelm — take one strategic action.

Once the funeral was over and family members had all gone back home, Stacia Nepper knew it was time to deal with her cousin’s death.

Eric Steven Abowd left this world all too early at the age of 39 on Tuesday, January 7, 2020.

Eric was born March 28, 1980 in Seattle, Washington but moved to Carson City shortly after, where he spent all his growing-up years. Eric bled Nevada blue and white as a wrestler, running back and Captain for the Carson High Football program. He was always happiest driving the ball up the field.

Barack Obama was running against Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2007. One edge Clinton had over Obama was her experience as a former first lady and U.S. senator. Obama had only been on the national political scene for a couple years.

Nevada Humanities will hold a series of free informational grant meetings in Henderson, Las Vegas, Reno, and Elko in January 2020. These meetings are open to anyone interested in learning more about applying for project grant funding from Nevada Humanities.

Nevada Humanities offers grants of up to $5,000 to nonprofit organizations and government entities, such as libraries and schools, to fund public and educational programs in the humanities.

As of Sunday morning, some phones for the Douglas County and Lyon County Sheriff's Office, including dispatch are down. 911 lines in Douglas County were not affected but other lines were down.

Where does the time go? Everyone has heard this a thousand times, but people still need to be reminded of the question anyway because everyone, regardless of what they believe, needs to stop and take a moment to enjoy the moment.

A 29-year-old Carson City man and a 25-year-old Carson City man were arrested for multiple felonies including burglary, possession of a stolen fire arm, possession of burglary tools, and more.

With the holiday season here the Carson City Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the community of some precautions that will reduce the chances of becoming a victim of crime. While many of us are shopping for the best deal on Christmas presents, criminals are looking for an opportunity to take advantage of us while we are distracted. The Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City launches its 35th year of Santa Train the weekend of Dec. 7 and tickets are available online and at the museum’s depot now.

Five years ago, Chef Don Pepe launched a holiday fundraiser to help Pets of the Homeless, a Carson City-based 501(c)3 non-profit that raises money to provide food, veterinary care and other essentials to the pets of homeless persons.
