Assembly Committee OKs Bill That Would Ban Horse Tripping

A Nevada Assembly committee supported banning most “horse tripping” for sport, entertainment, or practice Thursday, sending a bill to the full Assembly.
State Senate Bill 72 was one of many bills prohibiting animal cruelty that were discussed in the Assembly Committee on Natural Resources on Thursday. It bans horse tripping unless it is part of an event that is allowed by the local government.
The bill passed the committee by a vote of 10-2, with Assemblymen Ira Hansen, R-Sparks, and John Ellison, R-Elko, opposing the bill.
Nevada May Become 12th State to Ban Horse Tripping

Nevada could join the ranks of eleven other states, including California, Florida and New Mexico if a Senate bill that bans the controversial practice of horse tripping is passed by the Legislature.
Horse tripping is a sporting event in which the hind or front legs of a galloping horse are roped, causing the animal to fall to the ground.
Dayton woman faces third DUI charge
Submitted by editor on Wed, 12/05/2012 - 1:46pmA Dayton woman faces a felony DUI charge, the third one if convicted, after she was discovered driving erratically by an off-duty Carson City sheriff's deputy.
Stephanie Dale Sawyer, 31, was arrested Monday, Dec. 3, at 1:39 p.m. According to an officer's report, authorities were dispatched to the 800 block of Fairview Drive regarding a possible DUI driver. Upon arrival the arresting officer made contact with an off-duty Carson City sheriff's deputy who witnessed the driver's behavior.
Reno Rodeo Denim Local Drop Off Night

They have had rodeo, women’s soccer, women’s softball, and perhaps the cornerstone of the entire athletics, the men’s baseball. All of these teams have amped up the enrollment of Western Nevada College and yet, the athletics continue to struggle financially because of the lack of local support.

Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530-365-7500) (www.shastacascade.com) reports:
Fish are active and conditions are perfect.
The surface temps are averaging 59 degrees, and climbing to 61.5 degrees by midday. Clarity is very good, to 13.5 ft. Still cool enough on the surface to still be holding some nice Kings on the west side. 2 salmon were caught trolling Almanor West up to 2 lbs.
Trolling has been more effective than bait fishing deep holes and should remain that way until surface temps really spike. Like above 65 degrees.

Nevada Ranks 30th In Animal Protection, National Organization Says In New Report
Submitted by Nevada News Bureau on Tue, 01/17/2012 - 2:17pmCARSON CITY – Nevada ranked 30th among the states in how it protects animals in 2011, scoring only 25 points out of a possible 66, The Humane Society of the United States said in a national report released today.
Ranking first with 46 points was California, followed by New Jersey and Oregon with 40 points. In last place was South Dakota with eight points, with Idaho second to last with nine points.

Carson City man accused of stealing iPad and WWF belt from disabled roommate

David J. Catalani, 32, is being held on $55,000 bail. He told authorities he pawned the victim's possessions in order to pay for domestic violence classes.
