Chris Huber is bringing his expertise to Carson City.
“It’s what I know,” he said. “It’s what I do.”
What Huber knows is the world of cycling.
Huber is a former professional cyclist who had several top-10 finishes in the World Cycling Championships and held the speed record for a self-powered vehicle in 1993.

$400 Million Dollars have been spent, and soon you will have a nice new bridge to ride your bicycle across. But only for a few hours, so listen up!

If you have not yet made any plans to be in the Great Outdoors for the upcoming Fourth of July, you might want to heed some or all of the following tips.
Because the Fourth of July falls in the middle of the week on Wednesday this year, it will put a crimp in many folks’ plans for celebrating in the outdoors, as many of them will only have Wednesday off as a holiday.
So, their celebrating will have to occur either on the preceding weekend or the weekend following the Fourth.

With that said, consider this for either weekend:

On Wednesday night, Carson City Sheriff deputies arrested Saul Montez, 25, of Carson City, for felony possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and misdemeanor driving with suspended registration.

According to the arrest report, the suspect was stopped near the intersection of Edmonds and Gordon because the vehicle's registration was suspended.

At approximately 9:30 PM, 06/07/12, a fatal traffic accident occurred on US 50 between Silver Springs and Fallon, Nevada near mile marker LY33.

Muscle Powered will be hosting a talk by Boris Mordkovich and Anna Mostovetsky who have been transecting the country riding their electric bicycles.

The Trans-American Electric Bike Tour is a 4,000 mile journey from New York to San Francisco. The entire trip is self-supported, just two electric bicycles, and all the equipment and gear needed for the two-month journey. For the second time in history, mountain bike enthusiasts are welcome to join their peers on a great "Mountain Bike Nevada" adventure and ride through Nevada, border to border, from Sept. 8-18, 2012. "We're looking for riders who want to experience an epic ride across some of state's most spectacular terrain," said Todd Whear, ride organizer and event co-founder. The journey is touted as "once in a life-time experience" and is a fund-raising event for the Nevada Public Education Foundation.

Push America - Bike Riding to bring awareness of children with special needs, will make their annual visit to Carson City with an overnight visit with The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada in Carson City.

Come at 2pm to meet these great guys, and enjoy Storytime and Arts & Crafts along with a special Bike Clinic.

The Children's Museum is located at 813 North Carson Street, Carson City.

Event is included with regular admission or membership.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies made the following felony or gross misdemeanor arrests over Memorial Day Weekend:

• Joaquin Paul Gabriel Jr., 29, an electrician from San Jose, Calif., at 10:30 p.m. Friday. Gabriel was arrested for possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), as well as misdemeanor allegations of possession of less than one ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail has been set at $4,100 plus administrative fees.

Flume Trail Mountain Bikes officially opened for business on May 12th this year. The light winter snowfall has nearly melted off the lower trails, giving access to Marlette Lake and the Flume Trail. A few of us rode the Flume on Saturday, May 12th to go check it out.

A missing persons report was filed with the Carson City Sheriff's Office at around 9 a.m. Monday for a 90-year-old woman on blood pressure medication. According to the incident report, the missing person - Kitty Webb - has not been found. She was alleged to have last been seen in a white Ford F-150 with Nevada license plates.

The first annual Carson City Family Bike Festival, co-sponsored by Muscle Powered with Carson City Health and Human Services and Carson City Parks and Recreation, will be held on Sunday, May 20th, from 1-4 pm at Riverview Park.

It’s almost time for Muscle Powered’s annual Bike to Work Week cruiser ride! This Wednesday, May 16th, bring the whole family down to Telegraph Square for a slow-paced fun ride around the quiet streets of Carson City’s west side. Sign-in for the ride at 6:15pm, ride starts around 6:30pm.

Last Sunday May 6th was Bike Habitat‘s Tour of Carson, an annual event that this year celebrates the shop’s 5th anniversary in business! The Tour of Carson began in 2008 as a way for the shop to say thank you to its customers and the community for their support. The event begins with a 27-30 mile ride around the perimeter of Carson City, and then finishes back at the Bike Habitat for a BBQ.

Saturday May 12th at 5:30PM is Bike To Work Week Movie Night hosted by Capitol Automotive! Ride your bikes down at 5:30 pm for FREE pizza and beverages, and enjoy two fun bicycle themed movies. Marcus does a great job at converting his garage into a little theater, and there is plenty of secure bike parking within view of the seating.

On the heels of the most powerful storm to hit the Lake Tahoe region this winter, Heavenly Mountain Resort and Kirkwood Mountain Resort have announced plans to extend their respective ski and snowboard seasons.

Mother Nature and the lucky Leprechaun found powder at the end of the rainbow with a late season storm that dropped 5-9 feet of new snow at Tahoe South resorts this past weekend, which will provide great spring skiing conditions through Easter and beyond. Forecasts predict sunny skies throughout the week.

The first Lake Tahoe Motorcycle Adventure Ride and Rendezvous is slated for August 23-26 on the beautiful South Shore of Lake Tahoe (Tahoe South). The event includes both off road and pavement rides, evening social events, entertainment, guest speakers, vendors and Tahoe summer activities. The event welcomes all makes of bikes and riders.

Five men from the South Lake Tahoe and Carson Valley areas face fines after being cited by the U.S. Forest Service for riding snowmobiles in the Mokelumne Wilderness on the Eldorado National Forest. Snowmobiling and any kind of motorized activity is illegal in nationally-designated wilderness areas.
The riders were issued mandatory notices to appear before the federal magistrate in Sacramento.

Travel and ski journalists from national magazines, newspapers, websites, blogs and social media outlets will arrive at South Lake Tahoe next week and be greeted with several feet of fresh snow during the North American Snowsports Journalist Association National Conference.

Vail Resorts, Inc. today announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Kirkwood Mountain Resort at Lake Tahoe, Calif., recognized by skiers and snowboarders as offering some of the best high alpine advanced terrain in North America.

The film"The Vow," currently on view at the Fandango Galaxy theater in Carson City, is a good bad film. The bad is the sweetness-loaded script and the apparently rock-dumb male lead, Channing Tatum, as Leo Collins. The good is co-star Rachel McAdams as Paige Collins. This is billed as a romantic comedy, ideal as a "date" outing. Maybe, but ...

Movie opens with a brief scene of now then goes back to five years earlier when Paige and Leo exchanged vows in a yuppie-like wedding. Thus, "The Vows."

In honor of great conditions and anticipation of more snow, Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows are launching the new Tahoe Super 2 which offers two unrestricted days of skiing and riding at either resort for just $49 per day. Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows have recently been graced with blue skies, great groomers and incredibly fun snow conditions across 4,000 acres of open terrain, 31 lifts, 6 terrain parks and a jib pipe - offering 54 terrain park features. With several storms predicted in the next week, both resorts are expected to add to their 3-to-4-foot bases.
