Supporters of action on climate change took to public venues and social media throughout Thanksgiving weekend about the need for bold global action at the Paris Climate Talks.

Activists from organizations including the Sierra Club, Peoples Climate Movement, Avaaz and others took part in public Sunday strolls and rallies at two key venues, the Reno-Tahoe International Airport and public sidewalks near Meadowood Mall, as part of global climate actions coordinated by 350.org.

Virginia City invests $250,000 in new arena and fairgrounds venue

Virginia City’s economic vitality is getting a shot in the arm with the addition of a new event venue designed to accommodate nearly 5,000.

For a place dating back more than 150 years, Virginia City attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors annually. Many are drawn to the historic Comstock town for its rich history; many others attend one of the unique events that make up the annual calendar including the Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry, the International Camel & Ostrich Races or the Outhouse Races.

Weather Service: Fog banks between Reno and Carson Valley could pose driving hazard

Patches of dense fog formed Tuesday morning in the valleys from Reno south to Carson City and Carson Valley prompting a statement from the National Weather Service because of commuter traffic and driving conditions.

The fog has developed over the Truckee Meadows and North Valley area. The worst visibility was east of Pyramid Highway in Sparks, Spanish Springs and along East McCarran including around the Reno-Tahoe International Airport.

Jet Blue to provide service from Reno-Tahoe to New York City beginning May 28

Jet Blue Airways announced Tuesday that it would offer nonstop service between Reno-Tahoe International Airport and New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport beginning May 28, 2015. Reno-Tahoe will be the airline's 89th destination and is among a number of new JetBlue routes in the West.

Reno to London nonstop flights to begin in December 2015

Northern Nevada's first non-stop flight service between Reno and London’s Gatwick Airport will begin in December 2015, Reno-Tahoe International Airport officials announced Tuesday.

In partnership with Ski Lake Tahoe and the gaming community, the airport will offer twice-a-week service between Reno-Tahoe and London, England on Thomas Cook Airlines.

Nevada Air Guard soars during 'Broken Wing' exercise at Reno-Tahoe International Airport

Working closely with the neighboring staff at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport, dozens of Nevada Air Guard personnel participated in the “Broken Wing” training exercise in Reno on May 29 that included multiple emergency-response organizations. The Nevada Air Guard base is located on 64 acres on the southwest corner of the airport.

Some Sunday flights from Reno-Tahoe airport to San Francisco canceled

Reno-Tahoe International Airport is running smoothly, but some flights are still being impacted by Saturday's crash in San Francisco. A handful of Sunday flights to San Francisco have already been canceled.

Carson City 911 dispatch not affected by widespread phone outage

UPDATE 9:50AM: The Carson City Communications Dispatch Center reports the widespread phone outage that began Monday night hasn't affected 911 calls coming in. So far no one has complained to dispatchers that they had a difficult time reaching 911 through to dispatch, said Marlon Moncada, communications supervisor for Carson City.

AT&T has been sending updates to the dispatch center, the Sheriff's Office and the Carson City Fire Department about the problems and have worked to resolve immediate issues that involve 911 emergency service first, Moncada said.

"What we have been told is there is a group that is working with 911 centers so the community is able to call 911 and not experience problems," he said.

Meanwhile, messages to Carson Now have come from several readers stating their cell phone, internet and DSL services remain out of service with AT&T, Virgin, Sprint, Boost Mobile.

Homecoming day for the 1-189th Nevada National Guard

Members of the 1-189th Nevada National Guard unit have returned, arriving at Reno-Tahoe International Airport Wednesday to cheers from family and friends. They were deployed as aviation support for air assault missions throughout Afghanistan.
