CARSON CITY, Nev. — In Plain Sight Marketing LLC public relations and account specialist, Elizabeth Pearson has earned the Certificate in Principles of Public Relations by the Public Relations Society of America.

The entry-level certificate administered by the Universal Accreditation Board is awarded to recent graduates of the Public Relations Student Society of America to demonstrate their proficiency in the public relations field.

The Carson City School District is celebrating two new National Board Certified Teachers from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. The teachers to be recognized earning certification are Patricia Ababio, Graphic Arts teacher in the Career and Technical Education program at Carson High School, and Rhonda Holloway, English teacher at Carson Middle School.

CARSON CITY — Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak issued a Declaration of Emergency on Wednesday that would continue to support districts and schools in providing opportunities for students to learn from a distance during the COVID-19 pandemic. The directive builds on a previous directive signed March 20, 2020 by the Governor, which waived requirements for state assessments, including Smarter Balanced assessments and end of course exams.

The Carson City School District is celebrating two new National Board Certified Teachers from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. Recognition will come at Tuesday’s school board meeting. NBCT is widely considered to be the highest professional recognition for educators and includes a five percent pay increase in acknowledgement of accomplished teaching.

CARSON CITY — As part of the AVID 8 (Advancement Via Individual Determination), eight graders from Eagle Valley Middle School took time to read books to elementary students, kindergarten through second grade, at Fremont and Seeliger Elementary schools in Carson City, Friday, Dec. 6, 2019.

SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. — Silver Stage High School has been named a 2019 National Elementary and Secondary Education Act Distinguished School, formerly the National Title I Association. Silver Stage High is an exemplary demonstration of what it means to put students first and student success as the primary goal.

The Sierra Nevada Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) announced the launch of its first podcast, Better PR, this week. Nietzsche wrote that "Without music, life would be a mistake." But thanks to band teacher Nicolas Jacques, that's a mistake no one is making at Carson Middle School in Carson City. Music is everywhere in the school, the district and the surrounding community as students throng to join Jacques’ concert band, marching band and jazz band ensembles.

Carson City area activities ahead for Wednesday, Oct. 23 feature an economic roundup presented by the Northern Nevada Development Authority at Casino Fandango, Carson Tahoe's annual "Spooktacular" family event, Firehouse Subs will host our local Search and Rescue for a dinner fundraiser; Sierra Nevada Journeys and Nature Conservancy will present family STEM night in Genoa, plus art showings and more. CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Education and the Regional Professional Development Programs presented Makayla Mueller, a junior at Carson High School, with an award for designing the logo for the 2020 Computer Science Summits.

Early childhood professionals will have the opportunity for professional development on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Western Nevada College in Carson City.
