Saturday evening, March 3, will be the date of my all-time favorite fundraiser: The highly-popular and fun-filled, Carson Valley Chukar Club fund raiser, which will be held as usual at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.
This year’s version will be its 26th fundraiser.

Teams of super heroes, penguins, pirates and other characters jumped into Lake Tahoe last winter, and on March 17, they’ll do it again. You’re invited to join them as Special Olympics Northern California and Nevada co-host Polar Plunge® 2012 at Zephyr Cove, South Lake Tahoe. The event is open to all and will include entertainment, a costume contest, and prizes, as well as Special Olympics athletes, coaches, and volunteers who will share their experiences with the organization’s inspiring programs.

Spent some time skiing at Heavenly Mountain Resort the other day and the snow was fine, though pretty hard at 9 a.m. but softening as the sun at Lake Tahoe came into play. Couldn't help noticing how many skiers are still using the old rotary shoulder turn yet skiing on modern, shaped skis. That's a waste of energy.
On shaped skis keep the body facing down the fall line, letting the edges do the turn. That's what today's skis are all about. The deep sidecut makes the skis turn when you put the edges in. Gotta keep the hands out front, which incidentally is crucial in avoiding ACL injury.

This annual contest is inexpensive, you can have fun fishing during the year and you might even win some nice cash, just before Christmas. It's "big-band jazz times two" when the Mile High Jazz Band presents the ninth annual Mile High-Carson High Jazz Extravaganza, on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, 7:30 p.m., in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street, Carson City. The event is sponsored by the Mile High Jazz Band Association and the Carson City Band Association to benefit for Carson High Jazz Band programs.

Get out your lucky hat, because the Proscenium Players in conjunction with the Gold Dust West Hotel and Casino in Carson City is about to unveil a mystery dinner show that spoofs the movie “Casablanca” and the American dream of winning the jackpot. Penned by Tony Schwartz and Marylou Ambrose, the show, "Dealt a Deadly Hand: Murder at the Carson City Casino Royale," takes place at Rick’s club, the first legal gambling casino in Carson City. Rick dreams of striking it rich – then two crafty Native Americans try to claim the land and his gold-digging ex-wife Lola shows up.

Last Saturday evening (Dec. 3), the Ormsby Sportsmen’s Association (OSA) of Carson City held its traditional end-of-the-year banquet at the Carson Nugget and ended the 2011 year on a high note.

The Carson City Democratic Women's Club invites all interested residents to attend our annual Holiday Party on December 10th, 2012 starting at 11:30 AM. The traditional lighting of the Christmas trees – both State and City – has been on-going here in the capital city for well over 22 years. This year, Silver & Snowflakes Holiday Tree Lighting is becoming a new tradition, Silver & Snowflakes Festival of Lights and it begins on Friday evening, December 2nd.

The Tahoe Resource Conservation District has released a series of educational posters which identify some of the biggest threats to Lake Tahoe Basin, as well as what visitors, residents and even kids can do to help. Titled “Tahoe’s Most un-Wanted,” the first three posters feature aquatic invasive species, fine sediments from runoff and invasive weeds, and are free to pick up or request for local schools, businesses and other organizations who would like to display them publicly.

If you hunt and/or fish, you might want to set aside the evening of Saturday, December 03 for a “Ton of Fun” with a whole bunch of your counterparts.

Gold's Gym is holding a fundraiser to benefit the victims directly affected by the IHOP tragedy. There are numerous events that we will be doing that day. Among them are: a dunk tank donated by Kemp's Fun Jumpers. The Mayor is going to be in that dunk tank between noon and 1 pm. We have Firkin Fox doing BBQ. There will be a DJ and a popcorn machine. We are holding a "Sponsor A Slacker". That entails people getting sponsored to come to a 45 minute class designed to kick their tails! There is also a "Spin A Thon".
