I’m a lazy gardener. I try to minimize my work load while maximizing aesthetic appeal and practical function. I avoid plants that are needy, like those that need extra fertilizer or pruning or those that are susceptible to insects or disease. I’m not into planting annuals.

I used to pride myself on being a generalist. Being a Jane of all trades was a darn good survival mechanism when I was trying to make ends meet. I could do a little writing here. A little consulting here. And, believe me, I would consult on anything. I found comfort in this kitchen sink approach to life.

With hard-throwing Colorado Northwestern freshman Taylor Reidhead controlling the Wildcats offense for the second straight day, WNC made sure to work the count deep. The tactic only produced a run early, but the dividends rolled in during a four-run fourth inning that triggered a 5-3 and 10-2 Scenic West Athletic Conference softball doubleheader sweep.

The Capital City Community Band welcomes area elementary school choirs onstage during today’s free concert, A Salute to Young Musicians, at the Community Center.
