After several failed attempts to bring large-scale community projects to different cities in Nevada, he has now set his sights on Carson City to make his “Joshua’s Community” dreams come to life with the purchase of the Ormsby House.

CARSON CITY — Nevada health officials will use a federal grant recently awarded to the state’s Medicaid program to grow Substance Use Disorder services.

MINDEN — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is hosting their third annual “Fright at the Fairground" during the month of October. I recently had the pleasure of speaking to several hundred Tahoe City residents on a warm summer evening in August. I was there for a celebration that has been a long time coming.

Residents gathered in the parking lot of the blighted Henrikson Building to take a ceremonial swing of the hammer — to say goodbye to an eyesore of a building whose useful life came to an end years ago. They were also there to celebrate what will soon take shape as Tahoe City’s first new hotel in more than 60 years.

As part of its mission to support outstanding recreational opportunities for all, the Nevada Off-Highway Vehicles Program is excited to announce that approximately $900,000 in grant funding is available for off-highway vehicle (OHV) projects in Nevada.

The Carson City School District’s quarterly Community PLC (Professional Learning Community) meeting scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 25, 6 p.m., will offer a report from the Citizen Committee for 1600 Snyder. The meeting, held inside the Carson High School Library, will be the first meeting of the 2019-2020 school year.

Hello Carson City! I’ve been a little out of pocket since Burning Man. I have three sicknesses just pile on: playa lung, a head cold, and I wrapped the whole thing up with bronchitis. Doing life sick was pretty hard. But I found it was made possible by the number of times businesses in this area stepped up and said yes.

The upcoming Board of Supervisor’s meeting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 19 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center located at 851 E. William Street.

On the table for discussion are grant funding for the Sheriff’s Office, a new public guardian, and several new subdivision discussions.

Friday Sept. 13, no bad luck on this day, beginning at 1:18 p.m. was an assembly in the Big Gym during the last class of the day as an introduction to CHS’ Happiest Homecoming on Earth. Leadership students led the assembly with the first activity being the introduction of the Homecoming King and Queen candidates who made their grand entrance onto the floor.

It was a day like any other when ShaRae Staley woke on August 3 in her home on N. Edmonds Street in Carson City. She received a message from her husband, who she had separated from six weeks previous, that he wanted to come over and make their children breakfast and take them to the park. ShaRae agreed, as any mother would.

When her husband, Cortney Staley, arrived, nothing seemed amiss. He came and made their children breakfast, and she went to work.

RENO — Nevada’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology is hosting its 14th annual Small Business Expo on Friday, Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Mt. Rose Ballroom at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center.

CARSON CITY — Sierra Lutheran will host its annual 7th and 8th Grade Visitation Day on Tuesday, October 15, from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

This event, which is free to all 7th and 8th graders across the five county area, is carefully designed to give students a multi-dimensional look into what has made Sierra Lutheran one of the top high schools in the region.

CARSON CITY — A convoy of vintage military vehicles, making its way cross country to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first U.S. Army Transcontinental Convoy from Washington, D.C. to San Francisco, will make a pit stop for lunch at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City on Thursday, Sept. 12.

CARSON CITY — The Silver State Health Insurance Exchange, Nevada’s state agency that helps individuals obtain budget-appropriate health coverage through the online marketplace, Nevada Health Link, announces that starting Wednesday, consumers who previously purchased qualified health plans on HealthCare.gov can claim their migrated accounts on Nevada’s new state-based website, Nevada Health Link.

This is the first step enrollees should take to ensure their account is ready for open enrollment beginning on Nov. 1, 2019.

The Tahoe Basin is bear country and natural resource and law enforcement agencies are working diligently to remind residents and visitors to practice proper food storage and trash disposal when living in or visiting bear country. To help spread our message, we’ve launched a new website, TahoeBears.org, where residents and visitors can go to learn everything they need to know about living, visiting and playing responsibly in bear country.

On August 12, 2019, Nevada native, Daniel S. Judd joined Allison MacKenzie Law Firm as a new associate attorney.
