Mother’s Day is Sunday, and there will be plenty of ways for the family to enjoy spending time together all weekend long. Treat Mom to some new flowers for the garden at the annual Greenhouse Project Plant Sale. The Nevada State Museum has a day full of cowboy-related activities planned. Head up to Virginia City on the V and T for a memorable ride through the hills. Before you head out on your adventures, remember to leave a donation of non-perishable food by your mailbox for the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. Read on for all of your options.

Nevada tourism agency partners with Google Maps in trekker campaign
Submitted by editor on Tue, 03/22/2016 - 1:48pmTravelNevada joins the elite club of destination marketing organizations to borrow the Google Street View Trekker to collect images of less-traveled areas in Nevada for use on Google Maps. The areas will also be mapped on the TravelNevada website and available for use by any participating tourism entity, such as the many Nevada state parks that aided in filming.

October 22, 2015 - 6:30pm Gene Hattori, Curator of Anthropology, will present a Frances Humphreys Lecture on petroglyphs from Winnemucca Lake, Nevada that date to between 10,500 and 14,800 years in age. The lecture is Thursday, Oct. 22, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Nevada State Museum in Carson City.

The Capital City Arts Initiative opened its exhibition, BRIC Art 4, with artwork by eight area artists at the Carson City Business Resource Innovation Center on Wednesday. The exhibition will remain at the BRIC through early September 2014.

AUSTIN, Nev. — It’s not often you’ll find a classic historic mining town full of options for the more active traveler. Austin, Nevada is not only a living ghost town and a cultural heritage get-away but it has a multitude of adventurous options including hiking, mountain bike trails and more. Founded in 1862 during the silver rush, the town is located exactly in the center of the state along the Pony Express route on Highway 50 on the western slopes of the Toiyabe Range at elevation 6,605 feet.

Today through Saturday is National Coin Week and the Nevada State Museum and Reno Coin Club will celebrate the occasion with events culminating on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the museum.
The 87th annual National Coin Week, will celebrate coin and currency collecting with the theme, “Beautiful Places: Landmarks and Mintmarks.” The Nevada State Museum and the Reno Coin Club, both members of the American Numismatic Association, have several events lined up for the day.
