Classic cars of all makes and models filled Fuji Park Saturday during the sixth annual Send a Scout to Camp Car Show in Carson City.

Vintage cars and trucks lined up alongside each other while participants strolled around the park and soaked in the warm summer sun.

This year, Carson High School announced that earbuds and headphones will be banned from campus in an effort to create a better and safer learning environment.

“It’s a safety issue,” said Dan Davis of the Carson City School District. “While they’re on campus, if the principal or a teacher needs to audibly communicate with a student, they need to be able to hear them for safety reasons.”

Heading into Thursday, August 15, 2019 we can expect hot weather to continue with high temperatures near 100. Among events for the day, there will be a wreath remembrance ceremony for fallen Carson City law enforcement officers at the sheriff's office, a Muscle Powered morning hike, art showings, and a meeting of the Status of Women in Nevada group at the Carson Nugget. Roger Morrison Laird passed away on August 6, 2019, in the comfort of his home in Carson City, NV surrounded by close family.

Roger was married to his high school sweetheart, Jean (Russell) Laird. They shared 56 years of marriage.

Casteel, a 2018 graduate from Sierra Lutheran High School and a rising sophomore at Concordia University, Irvine used her first year in college to quickly grab ahold of the fast-climbing elevator to the executive suite for college students studying business.

Heading into Tuesday Aug. 6, which means the safest family celebration of the year at the 17th annual Carson City National Night Out. This is an event like no other, where agencies who work in areas of public health and safety gather at Mills Park to meet with Carson City residents. While in a wistful mood of late, I've been listening to the music of Miss Dinah Washington, who was on her seventh husband when she died of an overdose of alcohol and weight reduction pills at age 39, so young.

Dinah had a soft as cotton, tough as leather sound of someone who had seen more in her 39 years than you or I will ever see.

Silver City, Nevada - An Engineering/Robotics Mini-Camp for kids ages 8-14 and their parents takes place on Tuesday, August 6 from 10am – noon at the Silver City School House (community center) at 385 High Street, Silver City, Nevada 89428. The free, annual event is led by the Society of Women Engineers and FIRST Nevada.

The historic Comstock town of Silver City, Nev. will host another free, family-friendly public event on Saturday August 3. Kantu Inka will perform on the town’s outdoor stage, the Silver Pavilion, starting at 6:30 p.m.

Kantu Inka is a duo including Carlos Ocampo and Julie Lozada Ocampo. They bring Peruvian culture alive with dance and traditional instruments such as zampoñas, quenas, charangos, bombos, chacchas, and cajón.

Continuing Education at Western Nevada College is offering a brand-new five-day coding boot camp program designed for middle and high school students from Monday, July 29 through Aug. 2. The course is offered in partnership with Alphalancers, LLC, a web design and development company based in Reno.
