Senators top Reno for division title

Carson High secured its first trip to the NIAA Division I state boys basketball playoffs in 13 years with its win Friday night against Galena.

On Saturday night, the Senators had not only punched their state tournament ticket, but they took home the Northern Division I regional championship as well by defeating the Reno Huskies, 51-45.

Senators tame Grizzlies, 51-38, in OT to win regional playoff game

The Carson High boys varsity basketball team reached the second round of the NIAA North Division I Regional Playoffs by defeating Sierra League rival Galena, 51-38, Friday night at Spanish Springs High School in Sparks.

The Senators and Grizzlies played pretty even in the opening period. Carson held a slim one point lead going into the second quarter.

Senators smother Reed 57-31 in home playoff opener

The unbeaten Carson High School Senators stormed into the high school boys basketball post-season on a 16-0 unbeaten streak in the Sierra League.

They played host to the visiting Reed High Raiders Wednesday night in the opening round of the NIAA Northern Division I playoffs, and didn't miss a beat, either.

Carson High overwhelmed its guests, 57-31, to advance to the regional round of the playoffs at the end of the week.

Senators cage Tigers, 65-49, in season finale

The Carson High varsity boys basketball team put the finishing touches on an unbeaten regular season by defeating the Douglas Tigers, 65-49 Friday night, ending league play with a perfect 16-0 record in the Sierra League.

Carson High Swim Team members qualify for state championship

Twenty nine Carson High Swim Team members qualified for the 2015 NIAA DIVISIONS I & I-A Northern Region Swimming and Diving Championship held Friday and Saturday, May 8-9, at the Carson Aquatic Facility.

Eight team members qualified for the 2015 NIAA Division I Nevada State High School Swimming and Diving Championships which will be held Saturday, May 16 in Carson City.

Here are the results for Carson v McQueen and Carson v Reno duel meets which were their last regular season meets. They were held Saturday, May 2 at Idlewild Park Pool in Reno.

Senator Square: Proficiency testing this week at Carson High School

Just a reminder that proficiency testing is this week at CHS. Students taking the proficiency tests will begin their school day at the regular time of 7:45 a.m., while those not taking the proficiencies will start their school day at 10:30 a.m. The following tests will be given on the assigned days — March 2: Math; March 3: Reading; March 4: Writing; and March 5: Science. Carson High School Culinary Arts has been named to the 2014-15 Elite 50 by the National Center for Hospitality Studies by the Sullivan University. The award recognizes an exclusive group of high schools that excel in the areas of culinary arts, baking and pastry arts.

Varsity Boys Start Off With A Tough Loss

It is that time of year again for winter sports in the NIAA Northern Region. The beginning of this year's basketball season took place Thursday evening in the Carson High School Gymnasium as the Cougars of Spanish Springs took on the Senators of Carson in a heated varsity boys basketball show down.

Senator Square: CHS Marching Band wins Nevada Day Battle of the Bands

The CHS Marching Band competed last weekend in the Nevada Day Battle of the Bands held at Spanish Springs High School. The band finished first in their division beating out rivals Douglas High School.

They received the caption for "Outstanding Music." This award marks the first time in nine years that the marching band took home a first place trophy in a field show competition. Way to Go Big Blue Thunder!
