Two Care Flight helicopters called after accident at Highway 50 and Airport Road

At least two people suffered serious injuries in a vehicle accident that happened late Monday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 50 East and Airport Road in Carson City. Two air ambulances responded to take two people involved in the crash to the trauma care unit at Renown Medical Center in Reno.

The accident was reported at 4:26 p.m. Carson City Fire Department, the sheriff's office and the Nevada Highway Patrol were on the scene, reporting major damage to the vehicles involved.

Nevada law agencies zero in on speeders through May 10 in education campaign

Several of Nevada’s law enforcement agencies will target speeders in the northeastern region of the state through May 10 to change behaviors that have led to deadly crashes in the Silver State.

With its vast rural areas and wide roadways, Nevada is not immune from these behavioral challenges, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. In 2012, of the 258 deaths on our state’s roads, 100 lives were lost due to speeding, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The death toll related to speeding increased by 24 from the previous year.

Dayton teen dies in Tuesday Highway 50 accident

An 18-year-old Dayton man died in a crash involving a big rig Tuesday on Highway 50 and Ambrose Lane in Dayton, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

David Arroyo Lamas died Tuesday night at Renown Medical Center in Reno. He was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Ana Laura Munoz, 18, of Carson City. She is in critical condition, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson.

The driver of the big rig involved in the crash is Gary Alan Williams, 61, of St. George, Utah. He was also hospitalized with undisclosed injuries.

Care Flight called to accident on Highway 50 and Pine Cone in Dayton

UPDATE: A 66-year-old Silver Springs woman was flown by Care Flight after a single vehicle accident Wednesday morning in which her car went more than 300 feet down an embankment off of Highway 50 and Pine Cone Road in Dayton, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The woman, Claire Musty, was flown to Renown Medical Center in Reno with a possible broken femur, said NHP Trooper Dan Lopez.

UPDATE: Two people are in critical condition after a crash Tuesday on Highway 50 at Ambrose Lane in Dayton, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

NHP crash investigation details learned so far indicate a 2004 black Audi four-door vehicle making a left turn from Ambrose lane onto Highway 50 pulled in front of a red 2007 Wabash tractor pulling a trailer, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson. The tractor struck the Audi in the drivers’ door with its front pushing it off onto the South shoulder.

Man jailed after allegedly injuring mother when she attempted to call 911 for help

Carson City sheriff's deputies arrested a man Sunday after he allegedly tried to take a cell phone away from his mother who was attempting to call 911 for help after he became violent with her.

The Gardnerville man, Blane Allen Frazier, was arrested to the area of Highway 395 and I-580 freeway at 3:58 p.m. He faces a felony charge of preventing a victim from reporting a crime and lesser charges of domestic battery and open container.

NHP traffic violation awareness campaign includes bicyclists

Recently, the Nevada Highway Patrol participated in an enforcement initiative identifying motorists who committed traffic violations when sharing the road with bicyclists. During this enforcement period NHP Troopers observed over two hundred violations.

Motorists were stopped and educated on the laws pertaining to vehicles sharing the roadway with bicycles.

NDOT builds memorial honoring road workers who died at Nevada road project sites

A memorial ribbon is being built this week at the Nevada Department of Transportation headquarters in Carson City that will memorialize the 25 NDOT employees who have died since the agency began while doing road construction work.

The ribbon is part of a campaign recognizing National Work Zone Awareness Week going on now through Friday. Once finished, the memorial at NDOT headquarters, 1263 South Stewart Street, will be draped with potted flowers.

Motorcycle crash north of Virginia City claims life of Fallon man

A Fallon man died Sunday in a motorcycle crash north of Virginia City, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
James Edward Cooper, 67, died from injuries after being taken by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

NHP troopers were dispatched at 12:50 p.m. to the crash on State Route 341 approximately 2 miles north of Virginia City, said Trooper Dave Gibson.

Two dead, one critically injured after driver going wrong way crashes on I-580 in Reno

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a wrong-way vehicle crash that killed two people early Saturday morning on Interstate 580 near Plumb Lane in Reno, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. A 70-year-old woman is in critical condition at Renown Medical Center in Reno.

Kenneth C. Lee, 23, of Reno and Hans-Hartmut Kaesgen, 71, of Berea, Ohio died as a result of the crash reported at 3:26 a.m., said NHP Trooper Karen Garretson.

Driver uninjured in Highway 50 accident a mile up Spooner

Carson City Fire Department responded Thursday afternoon to a single vehicle accident in the westbound lane of Highway 50 approximately a mile up. First responders report the driver of the vehicle was standing outside of it. Carson City Fire Department reports the driver wasn't injured.

Also responding to the accident were Nevada Highway Patrol and Douglas County Sheriff's Office. The report came into NHP dispatch at 2:24 and Carson City dispatch at 2:27 p.m.

Passenger in Saturday's Carson City motorcycle crash at Roop and Fairview dies

The South Lake Tahoe passenger of a motorcycle that crashed Saturday in Carson City has died, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Audrey G. Rugamas, 21, died of injuries after she was taken off of life support on Wednesday. Rugamas had received severe injuries sustained from the motorcycle crash with a vehicle, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson.

Victims identified in Carson City motorcycle crash

The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified the victims involved in a motorcycle crash in Carson City late Saturday night.
They are Andrey L. Gallegos, 20, of Sparks, who was the driver of the motorcycle and passenger Audrey G. Rugamas, 21, of South Lake Tahoe, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson. The two are reported to be critically injured and on life support.

Two people remain critically injured after a motorcycle crash Saturday night in Carson City, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The names of the victims have not been released but the passenger of the unregistered green 2007 Suzuki motorcycle is a 21-year-old South Lake Tahoe woman and the driver, 20, had Nebraska identification, said NHP Trooper Dan Lopez. They were flown separately to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

Joint saturation patrol in Carson City yields 48 citations, one DUI arrest

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office along with the Nevada Highway Patrol held saturation patrols in the capital city area March 15 that resulted in 48 citations and one DUI arrest, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott McDaniel.

NHP reports two DUI arrests during St. Patrick's night revelry period

The Nevada Highway Patrol logged two DUI-related arrests Monday night in the Northern Command area that includes Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, Storey, and Washoe counties during the evening hours of St. Patrick's Day, said Trooper Dave Gibson.

Carson City Sheriff's Office figures have not been released yet. The arrests were made in the Reno-Sparks area.

Passenger critically injured after vehicle hits tree near Spooner Summit

A SUV crashed into a tree early Tuesday morning on State Route 28 north of Highway 50 and Spooner Summit, critically injuring a passenger, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. A preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the SUV may have fallen asleep at the wheel.

Fallon man dies in Highway 50 crash involving a farm tractor

A 36-year-old Fallon man died Tuesday morning in an crash involving a farm tractor and a car on Highway 50 east of Fallon. Justin M. Edgemon died at the scene of the accident reported shortly before 6 a.m., according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

NHP, Carson City sheriff's office team up for March 15 saturation patrol

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office and the Nevada Highway Patrol will conduct saturation patrols Saturday, March 15 in the capital city area.

Deputies and NHP troopers will be looking for intoxicated drivers as well as driving habits and traffic violations which are associated with intoxicated drivers, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Scott McDaniel.

The patrols are designed to keep our roadways safe from impaired and unsafe drivers, he said.

Family of Carson City man killed by hit-and-run driver asks for help locating the suspect

The family of a 31-year-old Carson CIty pedestrian who was struck on Highway 50 near Stateline at Lake Tahoe in the early morning hours of Aug. 10, 2013 seeks help in locating the driver who fled the scene, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Cody J. Dobson was walking on the highway, or may have stumbled from the adjacent sidewalk, just east of the MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa at approximately 3:13 am prior to being struck by a motor vehicle, said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen.

Wellington man, Samuel H. Dupuis, killed in crash on State Route 208

An 87-year-old Wellington man, Samuel H. Dupuis, and his dog were killed in a crash Monday afternoon in Douglas County on State Route 208, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The accident was reported 12:49 p.m. NHP troopers were dispatched to a collision near Kyle Drive, four miles east of Highway 395, involving a commercial motor vehicle and a small pickup, said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen.

NHP ends high speed chase through Douglas, Carson City and Washoe County after conditions become too dangerous

UPDATE: A high speed chase that began in Mono County and went through Douglas and Carson City was scaled back Saturday morning after Nevada Highway Patrol troopers said the pursuit became too dangerous.

The pursuit of a silver Hyundai Sonata happened after a traffic stop in Mono County in which the driver was taken out of the vehicle and the passenger, identified as 26-year-old Geoffry Guess of Idaho, got into the driver's seat and sped away, said NHP Trooper Dan Lopez.

Vehicle recovered, suspect driver at large in high speed chase

The driver of a vehicle involved in a high speed chase that began overnight in Stagecoach and ended in north Carson City remains at large, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

NHP Trooper Dan Lopez said the chase began Thursday night at 11:02 p.m. when a trooper initiated a traffic stop after observing the driver of a Dodge Charger back his vehicle down the highway.

The Nevada Business Group on Health, a non-profit organization dedicated to representing more than 70 Northern Nevada employers and their employees in matter related to cost-effective health, health care and health insurance products and services, has appointed Denise Darling, director of finance at Carson Nugget Casino in Carson City, to its board of directors.

Suspect arrested in Carson City burglary and chase

One suspect is in custody today and faces a charge of felony eluding in Monday's residential burglary on Roundup Road in Carson City that resulted in a vehicle chase and search for the suspect, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Brandon Peart, 32, of Carson City was booked into jail with bail at $25,000. The resident of the address had reported walking into the home and discovering the burglary in progress. According to the initial report, the suspect threatened the resident with bodily harm before fleeing the area and taking guns with him.

NHP deputy chief Dennis Osborn picked to lead Nevada Highway Patrol

Dennis Osborn, deputy Nevada Highway Patrol chief, will assume the duties as chief of the NHP beginning Monday. He replaces former NHP Chief Troy Abney who left the department in November 2013 after serving nearly 20 months with the agency.
The announcement was made today by Department of Public Safety Director James M. Wright.

NHP: New Year’s Eve enforcement activity slightly lower than last year

The Nevada Highway Patrol's preliminary enforcement activity numbers for New Year’s Eve, which were captured between 7:00 pm last evening through 5:00 am this morning, appear to be slightly lower than those reported by our agency one year ago.

Woman dies, driver hurt in single vehicle rollover crash on Highway 95 north of Hawthorne

A woman died Friday morning in a single-vehicle rollover crash in Mineral County north of Hawthorne on U.S. Highway 95, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The woman, a passenger, was ejected and died at the accident scene, said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen. The accident was reported at 8:14 a.m., approximately 23 miles north of Hawthorne.

Preliminary details of the incident indicate a brown 1966 Chevrolet pickup was traveling north on the two-lane highway when the male driver allowed his vehicle to depart its lane of travel, said Allen.

NHP responds to 22 weather-related crashes Thursday, one in Carson City and 5 in Douglas County

The Nevada Highway patrol reports 22 accidents early Thursday morning due to snow and icy conditions on the roadways. Of those crashes, one was in Carson City near the I-580 freeway onramp and Highway 50 East and another near Spooner Summit on State Route 28. Five crashes were reported in Douglas County.

With ongoing requests for children's Christmas gifts still being taken, the Toys For Tots program in Carson City was presented with generous gifts of cash and children's toys on behalf of the Capitol Police division of the Nevada Department of Public Safety and the Nevada State Law Enforcement Officers' Association.
