National Governors Association picks Nevada for Learning Network

“We are honored to be selected for the Learning Network on Improving Birth Outcomes,” said Tracey D. Green, M.D., Chief Medical Officer. “I am encouraged to see that NGA recognizes birth outcomes as a significant public health challenge.”

Historic Dangberg Ranch picked among favorite Nevada places

The Nevada Northern Railway in Ely, the Star Hotel and Basque Restaurant in Elko, the Lost City Museum in Overton, the Nevada State Museum in Las Vegas and the Pahrump Valley winery were also picked, said Claudia Vecchio, Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs director.

Western Nevada College to graduate its largest class Monday
Submitted by editor on Tue, 05/14/2013 - 5:38pmCARSON CITY — For the fourth consecutive year, Western Nevada College will graduate its largest class in history. The class of 2013 is 505 students strong, with 530 degrees and certificates being issued.
Four students will receive Bachelor of Technology degrees in construction management, and three students will graduate with bachelor’s degrees as part of WNC’s teacher preparation partnership with Nevada State College. The graduates span 60 years, from the youngest at age 17 and the eldest at 77.
Charter brings C-SPAN bus to Carson City, Reno Thursday

The interactive bus will be at the Nevada State Legislative Building, 9:30-11 a.m. at the corner of 4th Street and South Carson Street in Carson City.

Weather conference at Lake Tahoe to feature Nobel Prize team winner
Submitted by editor on Mon, 12/31/2012 - 2:13pmChris Field, a 2007 Nobel Prize team winner and lead author of the study on the effects of global climate change will be the keynote speaker at Lake Tahoe South's Operation Sierra Storm Meteorologist Conference, Jan 10.
Field, was the Co-Chair for Working Group II of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) which shared the 2007 Peace Prize with former Vice President Al Gore. He’s the director of the Department of Global Ecology, Carnegie Institution for Science at Stanford University and a 2009 Heinz Award recipient, recognizing extraordinary environmental achievement.
U.S. Congressman Amodei to address Carson City residents

The event begins with a networking session at 8:30 a.m. and Congressman Amodei will begin his address at 9 a.m.
The event is free and will include a continental breakfast courtesy of the Carson Nugget.
