The smoke affecting Carson City, Carson Valley and Reno areas is from the Soberanes Fire, located in the Las Padres National Forest in Monterey County near the coast north of Big Sur.

The event, June 17-19, will gives riders three distance options: beginner, weekend warrior and pro level.
The riding courses were picked in cooperation with Visit Carson City, the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest and Nevada State Parks.

Built in 1861 to provide protection for early settlers, Fort Churchill was once an active U.S. Army fort. it was abandoned nine years later. Today the ruins are preserved in a state of arrested decay. A visitor center displays information and artifacts of the fort’s history.
Winter precipitation results in prolific display of yellow flower only found in western Nevada

The Carson Valley monkeyflower (Erythranthe carsonensis) is only found in the foothills and valley bottoms from the Red Rocks area north of Reno to the little town of Dresslerville, west of Gardnerville.
