Johnson received this award for the work accomplished during his 24-year career educating the public about the dangers, causes, and prevention measures associated with wildland fire.

Deep snow delays opening of Ebbetts and Sonora passes for Memorial Day weekend

This is first time in a decade that State Route 108 over Sonora Pass wan unable to open in time for the Memorial Day weekend.

Plow crews continue to clear seasonally closed Sierra passes, some opening dates projected
Submitted by editor on Sun, 04/16/2017 - 11:59amSnow, rocks, boulders, trees and debris are being cleared from roads through the Sierra Nevada that have been closed through winter. Caltrans crews from Districts 9 and 10 are plowing through several feet of snow in these areas. While some roads will be opening soon, many have a lot of work to be done before they can open to traffic.
Heller and Amodei are on the wrong side of history regarding National Monuments
Submitted by editor on Tue, 01/17/2017 - 10:19pmLast week Congressman Amodei and Senator Heller introduced legislation to “prevent the threat of executive action designating or expanding national monuments without Congressional approval or local support.” Their legislation would add Nevada to Wyoming as the only states exempt from presidential designation of National Monuments, except as authorized by Congress.

A procession was held for Will Hawkins, 22 of Reno and Jacob M. O’Malley, 27, of Zephyr Cove which began in Reno and went to Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City.

Nevada law enforcement to crack down on drunken boating

Operation Dry Water is a nationally coordinated heightened awareness and enforcement campaign, focused on deterring boaters from boating under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Carson City weather: Heat to arrive but record temperatures will be in southern Nevada

Pony Express Re-ride hits the trail June 15 - 25
Submitted by Danielle Cook on Wed, 06/08/2016 - 10:12pmThe National Pony Express Association will be conducting its Annual Re-Ride of the Pony Express Trail from Sacramento, California, to St. Joseph, Missouri, June 15 - 25, 2016. It is expected to pass through Carson City at approximately 2 p.m. Thursday, June 16.
This Re-Ride is a 10-day, 24-hour a day, non-stop event by over 600 riders and horses over the 1,966 mile route of the Pony Express National Historic Trail from California through Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas to Missouri. It is the longest event held annually on a historical trail in the nation.
Nevada tourism division creates 'Field Trip Fund' to spur in-state travel
