Stop by the east side of Mills Park today, Sunday, September 29th and visit the historic Wungnema House for the Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation’s monthly open house, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. There is no admission fee for the open house, and all are welcome.

Jamming into the midweek, events lined up for Wednesday, Sept. 25 around the capital city include a Carson City Chamber's Soup's On luncheon with a primer on blockchain. The Northern Nevada Development Authority will host its monthly Business Edge meeting at Casino Fandango with a focus on Nevada's energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives. Also happening: Fusion cooking classes at Healthy Communities Coalition’s Dayton headquarters, plus the Veterans Resource Group will make a visit to the Dayton Food Pantry. There's also a Wine and Moondance Chocolate Pairing at Expresso Yourself inside the Brewery Arts Center, plus art workshops and showings, Salsa dancing and more.

As we make our way to Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019, events around the capital city include a job fair at the Carson Nugget, a morning walk, evening hike and a bike ride with Muscle Powered, a Relay for Life fundraiser at Firehouse Subs, a Fat Tuesday business networking event, Culinary Traveler’s Club at Bleu Cafe and more.

Northern Nevada Development Authority will heat things up with a presentation by Southwest Gas at The Business Edge meeting in Carson City this Wednesday, Sept. 25. Southwest Gas will present business energy-cost saving tips, natural gas as an energy source, and their renewable energy initiatives in Nevada.

Healthy Communities Coalition announces its new initative to host representatives from different veterans resource groups once a month at each of its volunteer-powered food pantries in Lyon County. TMCC Veterans Upward Bound shared information at the Yerington Food Pantry on September 18th. They will be on hand at the Dayton Food Pantry to share information on Wednesday, September 25 from noon to 4pm. They will also be at the Silver Stage Food Pantry to share information on Wednesday October 2 from 1pm-4pm.

Coming up on the final stretch of the work week, Thursday, Sept. 19, 2019 is shaping up to be eventful around the capital city area, including a morning Tahoe Rim Trail hike hosted by Muscle Powered, a meeting of the Carson City Board of Supervisors, a Status of Women in Nevada meeting at the Carson Nugget, activities at the library including the first in a series of Job Seeking With Google workshops, plus the first of the three-day Rockabilly Riot car show at Mills Park and more. At the monthly Carson City Airport Authority meeting of the board, the Authority presented Donna Clarke, executive director of the Eagle Valley Children's Home, a check in the amount of $3,963.61 to establish an endowment in the name of the Carson City Airport Authority to support the mission of the children's home.

CARSON CITY — Statewide employment figures in August show Nevada is up 5,400 jobs over the month and 42,100 over the year, with the state's unemployment rate at 4.1 percent, unchanged from June and down 0.4 percentage point when compared to last August, according to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s monthly report released Wednesday.

UPDATE: Due to weather concerns, the Pirate Pup Parade will be moved indoors outside of the Black Box Theater at the Brewery Arts Center. The film showing of "Hook" will be held in the BAC Performance Hall. Food Trucks will be outside in the parking lot.

The public is welcome to the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Dr., from 2:00 to 3:00 pm for a talk by Nevada Appeal columnist Guy Farmer on the subject of "the Nevada Gaming Control Board's revoking Frank Sinatra's gaming license". The talk is sponsored by the Carson City branch of RPEN (Representing Public Employees of Nevada) as part of their first Tuesday monthly meeting programs. RPEN protects retiree PERS and PEBP benefits.

RENO — Nevada’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology is hosting its 14th annual Small Business Expo on Friday, Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Mt. Rose Ballroom at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center.

CARSON CITY — In light of a recent report released by the Guinn Center for Policy Priorities surrounding Nevada's uninsured populations, the State of Nevada and the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange, Nevada’s state agency that helps connect individuals to budget-appropriate health coverage through the online marketplace, Nevada Health Link, remind Nevadans of the importance of having health insurance and encourages them to explore insurance coverage available to them through Nevada Health Link.

CARSON CITY — The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada is promoting Lifeline Awareness Week, Sept. 9-13. The Lifeline Assistance Program is a government benefit program supported by the Universal Service Fund that provides a discount on voice or broadband services for qualifying low-income consumers.

The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada will hold consumer sessions Tuesday, Sept. 10 in Carson City regarding a proposed slight rate decrease for NV Energy customers in Northern Nevada.

National Aviation Day was celebrated Monday, August 19. President Franklin D Roosevelt established this United States national observation in 1939. The date is the anniversary of Orville Wright’s birthday. Since 1903 when Orville and Wilbur Wright first achieved piloted, controlled, sustained, heavier-than-air flight the world has changes significantly. We are all touched by aviation in one way or another. Everything from people to packages are transported via airplanes.

We're heading into the midweek, Wednesday, August 21, 2019 with sunny skies and activities throughout the day including day 2 of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the Carson City Community Center, Jazz and Beyond festival performances to complement Wheeled Food Wednesday at the BAC followed by a classic outdoor movie to boot, "West Side Story." Southwest Gas has proposed a rate hike amounting to an average increase of $2.27 per month for Northern Nevada residential customers. A consumer session will be held Tuesday, Aug. 27, to hear public comment regarding the annual rate adjustment application by the utility.
