Ready for the weekend? Enjoy a ride to Virginia City on the V and T, or head out to the Reno Stead Airport for the World Championship Air Races. Dancers can show their stuff at Comma Coffee's monthly World Dance Open Floor. Kick up your heels at Carson Lanes as DJ Cowboy Bobby spins the country hits. Living the Good Life is a good time with DJ Bobby G's Friday Night Dance Party. West Coast Swing is on the menu at Yaple's Ballroom, and you can learn to do the hustle.

Gaming Control issues 71-count complaint against Carson City casino

Investigators for the Gaming Control Board have filed a 71-count complaint charging multiple violations of record keeping, accounting rules and security procedures by operators of the Max Casino and its predecessor Carson Station.

Many of us will never forget where we were when we first heard about the hijacking and subsequent attacks on the World Trade Center. September 11, 2001 is burned into our collective memory. At 8:30 a.m. this morning there will be a memorial service at the 9/11 Memorial in Mills Park where an I-beam from the fallen towers now serves as a reminder. Even if you cannot make it to the ceremony, please take a moment of silence to remember.

Labor Day weekend always seems bittersweet. Sure, it’s a three day weekend and a great time to bar-be-que, camp, or enjoy friends and family. It also marks the end of the summer. Everyone has gone back to school, and the autumn crisp is beginning to sneak in. No matter where you roam this weekend: north, south, east, or west there is fun to be had. Or stick around town and enjoy the many things that make Carson City unique.

I Love Carson City’s Weekend Event Summary: August 29-30

This last weekend of August is filled with ways to celebrate your community. Carson Animal Shelter Initiative, better known as CASI, hosts their annual Bark, Whine, and Dine Fundraiser at Fuji Park. Animal lovers can also head to Carson Catalina Apartments for a rummage sale that benefits the Carson Tahoe SPCA. The Carson City Sheriff's Office young Explorers will host a fundraising car wash; The Marine Corp League can be found at the north Carson Walmart; half of the donations received will go to Deputy Howell’s family fund. And don’t miss out on the drought-friendly water balloon ice bucket challenge raising funds for ALS at Butler Meats on Sunday.

The end of August already: how did that happen? This summer seems to have flown by. I guess that’s what happens when you’re having fun. Those of you gearing up for Burning Man have just a few last days to prepare for the playa. And those headed to Western Nevada College have this one last weekend before it’s time to hit the books. The kids are finishing their first week of school, but the summer hasn’t quit just yet. The annual Jazz and Beyond Festival is heading into its final weekend, and as always, going out in style. Tonight, celebrate Count Basie’s 111th birthday with the Mile High Jazz Band downtown on Third Street. Carson Tahoe Medical Center is holding its 5th annual HopeFest concert headlined by the Young Dubliners. Carson's own, Molly Seals, will be performing, as well.

Northern Nevada JobConnect host job fairs this week in Reno and Carson City

Nevada JobConnect will hold two job fairs this week, Wednesday, in Reno and Thursday in Carson City. The job fairs are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.

The job fair on Wednesday will be held at the Summit Mall at 13945 S. Virginia Street, Suite 636 in Reno and the Thursday job fair will be held at the Carson City Fuji Park Exhibit Hall at 601 Old Clear Creek Road.

Unleash your inner artist at Comma Coffee’s ‘Paint, Drink, and Be Merry’ or at the Senior Center with a special watercolor painting fundraiser. I hope you’re in the mood for music, Carson City. The annual Jazz and Beyond Festival begins today with an art show and concert on the lawn of the Bliss Mansion. Over the next two weeks you’ll have a plethora of melody to choose from at venues throughout town. Enjoy an outdoor concert at Third and Carson with Drinking with Clowns. Sassafras is thrilled to grab Groove Session for a show; they’re usually off touring. Mo’z Motley Blues will give you a reason to dance at Living the Good Life. You’ll want to take a look at the whole list: I’ve only barely scratched the surface.

Silver Dollar Car Classic this weekend in Carson City, Hot August Nights in Virginia City

Classic car enthusiasts from Carson City to Virginia City will rev up their engines this weekend for two annual events: The Silver Dollar Car Classic and the Virginia City kickoff to Hot August Nights.

Festivities in Carson City begin Friday at Max Casino, formerly Carson Station, with a street dance, show and shine beginning at 6 p.m. The car show then moves to Mills Park for the weekend.

The weekend has arrived and it’s bringing a plethora of activity with it. Car lovers will want to head to the Silver Dollar Car Classic at the Max Casino, known as the Carson Station just a few days ago. The Classic moves to Mills Park for the weekend. If the Mustangs and Broncos you prefer are horses, rather than Fords, you’ll want to grab a ticket to the Bull Riding Competition at the State Fair. Carnival rides, circus performances, and live music will keep everyone entertained. Make sure to catch the shuttle from the Casino Fandango parking garage: parking at Fuji Park is extremely limited. ‘Break a leg’ to the cast of Peter Pan. Youth Theater Carson City opens tonight at the Community Center.

Goodbye Carson Station, hello Max Casino

The Carson Station is no more. The new sign for the Max Casino went up this morning on South Carson Street, part of the renovations that have been taking place at this property.
