Youth Theatre Carson City is thrilled to announce our upcoming Virtual Summer Workshop Series, held exclusively online over six weeks, June 16 to July 23, 2020 as part of their YTCC@Home initiative.

Youth Theatre Carson City is bringing local experts, home-grown successes, and industry professionals from New York, Los Angeles, Boston and beyond right into your living room covering topics from acting and singing to theatrical design and songwriting to building relationships and becoming a successful professional in the arts.

Well the kids are home thanks to COVID-19, and after approximately four hours the novelty of not being at school is sure to wear off and they’ll expect you to provide them with entertainment after they've done their online school learning assignments. So before you start tearing your hair out, here are 10 ways to keep your kids entertained during quarantine!

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region to help the next three days breeze by, including the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival, Carson City Library’s End of Summer Learning Challenge, history talks at Mormon Station Park, train rides in Virginia City, a sushi cooking class at Sierra Chef on Sunday and more!

Christmas is getting closer, and in Carson City, that means holiday trains. From the V&T Railway's Polar Express to the Nevada State Railroad Museum's Santa Train, rails around the state capital are busy delivering Saint Nicholas to children and spreading Christmas cheer.

There are only two more Saturdays until Christmas, and Santa Claus is back in Carson City again this weekend ahead of the big holiday.

The Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall entertained a packed house Saturday afternoon for the first matinee performance of "Mary Poppins, Jr.," a youthful retelling of the classic P.L. Travers tale.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the Nevada state capital, and there is no shortage of holiday events and activities to make the season bright.

With winter weather having arrived, it seems only appropriate the last Friday of November is when Carson City celebrates the holiday season in a big way by ringing in the spirit of giving with the annual Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights.

“Let’s Go Fly a Kite!” Wild Horse Children’s Theater presents the Northern Nevada premiere of Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s "Mary Poppins, Jr." With unforgettable songs, breathtaking dance numbers and an irresistible story, this magical family-musical is “practically perfect” for the start of the holiday season. "Mary Poppins, Jr." opens on Friday, Nov. 30 for 2 weekends only at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall in Carson City with two casts of incredibly talented local youth ages 5-18.

When the song says “Let’s Go Fly a Kite!” Carson City takes it to heart. The Wild Horse Children’s Theater will fill the air with art, song and dance when it presents the Northern Nevada premiere of Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s "Mary Poppins, Jr."

Youth Theatre Carson City will hold auditions this Saturday for its production of "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Jr." The show will run four performances, Dec. 14-16, 2018 in the Bob Boldrick Theatre at the Carson City Community Center.

Wild Horse Children’s Theater has obtained the rights for the Northern Nevada premiere of Disney’s “Mary Poppins, Jr." Auditions will be held Thursday, August 23 and Saturday, August 25 for actors ages 5-18 at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City.

This is going to be an epic Fathers’ Day weekend. Carson City Off-Road sponsored by Epic Rides has taken over downtown with everything mountain bike and plays host to a free Music Festival in McFadden Plaza. Don’t miss Arts and Culture Day at the Nevada State Railroad Museum with unlimited rides on the Steam Train, special vendors, and more. Stewart Indian School will be a hotspot of activity with the annual Fathers’ Day PowWow underway. This is just the tip of the iceberg, read on for more fun than you’ll know what to do with.

The Carson City Leisure Hour Club celebrates the holiday season and the continuing celebration of its 120th year on Wednesday, Dec. 21 with special guest performer Christina Bourne. The meeting is preceded by a buffet dinner at 6:30 pm in the Carson Nugget Capitol Ballroom.

As the curtain rises on a stage full of tap-dancing feet this May, audiences will applaud one of the grandest, most intense celebrations of musical theater released on Broadway.

It is the quintessential song-and-dance spectacular, 42nd Street. The award-winning Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company presents the musical at the Carson City Community Center, weekends, May 6 through 15.

The countdown to Turkey Day has begun, and living in Carson City gives us plenty to be thankful for: Beautiful views, our own deer herd, great shops, yummy restaurants, talented actors, artists, and craftsmen, and wonderful people. Get in the spirit of giving with a new tattoo from Hooligan’s Ink to benefit the Austin House. For something less permanent, drop off a turkey at one of the contenders in the Salvation Army’s Battle of the Bars. Giving your time is valuable, too. The Muscle Powered Trash Mob meets once a month to help keep Carson’s trails clean and litter-free.

Happy Friday, Carson City. If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly suggest tracking down some tickets for Mary Poppins. The cast and crew of the Western Nevada Musical Theater Co. knock it out of the park with this production. Carson High School’s annual Craft Fair begins tonight; a plethora of crafters, artisans, and vendors will be there to help with your holiday gift list. It’s West Coast Swing night at Yaple’s Ballroom, so put on your dance shoes and kick the weekend off right.

Whovians won’t want to miss on the painting and trivia party today at Van Gogh and Vino with a special Dr. Who theme. If you find yourself to the east of Carson, head by the Holiday Craft Fair in Dayton. Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint makes a good choice for dinner tonight; they’re hosting an all styles jam with Xing Bridges. Good luck to the athletes competing in today’s Special Olympics Bowling Tournament in Reno.

Ready for the weekend, Carson City? The weather should hold up on Saturday, but no promises on Sunday. Hit the slopes if you are so inclined, several Tahoe resorts have opened for the season. Runners should head out to Washoe Lake State Park for the first of the Be Bold, Run in the Cold series sponsored by Ascent Runs. If you prefer something warmer, head to Crossroads Lounge for their Grand Re-opening. It’s under new ownership and is sure to have something to keep you toasty.

Go Big Blue! The Carson Senators head into the varsity football regional finals against North Valleys High School. Bundle up and cheer on our high school. Sierra Lutheran High School’s theater department is presenting Borrowed Time; break a leg. Mary Poppins returns for its second weekend at the Community Center. The Western Nevada Musical Theater Company has outdone themselves this season, so hurry and get tickets or you may miss out.

Model train lovers are in for a special treat. It’s National Model Train Month and local aficionados are opening their doors and showing off their sets. Grab a tour guide from Hobbytown by the Denny’s Restaurant, and all aboard for a fun day. The Classic Cinema Series returns to Galaxy Theater with a showing of Die Hard. Yippy-ki-yay.

SUNDAY:

Welcome to the weekend, Carson City. The temperatures will be brisk, but nothing a scarf and sweater can’t help guard against. The real cold shows up late Sunday and brings with it a good chance for snow. Mary Poppins would advise we bear it with a spoon full of sugar.

Break a leg, Western Nevada Musical Theater Company! The Broadway musical, Mary Poppins, opens today and is sure to be one of their best productions yet. For those who don’t know their lines, head to Improv at the Brewery Art Center and see what you can come up with on the fly. Live music hits the stage at Westside Pour House, Glen Eagles, Living the Good Life, and Comma Coffee.
