Bay Area manufacturer relocates to Dayton

While the climate might pose a shock for some of his employees, Todd Peterson found the business climate in Nevada just to his liking.

The president and now 100 percent owner of Peterson Products, Peterson is in the process of moving his manufacturing firm from San Mateo, Calif. to Dayton.

Science and technology grant allows WNC to offer advanced manufacturing training

As the state of Nevada expands its manufacturing base, it also seeks to expand and enhance technical training opportunities for area residents. To that end, Western Nevada College has received a $150,000 Science and Technology grant to prepare residents for the new technical jobs.

California rubber company to move plastics division to Carson Valley

A rubber and plastic manufacturer will move its plastic division from California to Carson Valley in Douglas County and bring 40 jobs along with it, officials with Northern Nevada Development Authority announced Thursday.

VIP Rubber and Plastic has purchased a building near Johnson Lane and plans a Jan. 4, 2016 opening. The company's main manufacturing facility will remain in La Habra, Calif.

WNC student works toward degree through unique college, community partnership

Jonathan Shoff knows the value of a good job and a good education. Raised in Southern California primarily by his two grandfathers, one retired Navy and the other a pastor, Shoff moved to Carson City in 2000 to live with his uncle, and get back on the right track. Early brushes with the law for being, as he said, “young and dumb,” didn’t deter him from seeking a better life.

Students graduate from Carson City Library manufacturing program

As more manufacturing businesses have moved to Northern Nevada, including Tesla in Storey County, Kayla Homme, 22, adjusted her career focus.

“I saw that opportunity,” she said. “I think it’s something like 70 percent men, so I figured as a woman I’d have a better chance.”

NNDA announces expansion of New Millennium steel facility in Fallon

New Millennium Building Solutions is expanding its Northern Nevada operations in Fallon, the Northern Nevada Development Authority announced Thursday. New Millennium recently began a two phase expansion at its current facility and will hire up to 17 additional employees over the next six months.

Embracing the area's design and manufacturing community, the Capital City Arts Initiative's [CCAI] exhibition, Industrial Art, is now at the Carson City Library. The show, previously at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery, will be available at the Library through November 19.

The Library will host a public reception for Industrial Art on Friday, October 2, 3:30-5pm in honor of Manufacturer's Month [October]. The Library’s MT1 training room and the Digitorium will also feature students’ manufacturing activities during the open house event.

AZZ Galvanizing to build eco-friendly plant in Storey County

NNDA, Carson City manager visit Poland

Northern Nevada Development Authority’s (NNDA) Executive Director Robert Hooper and a sub-delegation from the Sierra Region of Northern Nevada are in Lublin, Poland this week as part of Governor Sandoval’s European Trade Mission. The mission is part of an ongoing initiative to build relationships and grow Nevada’s international presence.

New Western Nevada College manufacturing technology credential trains locals for jobs

Northern Nevada’s new manufacturing growth requires employees with more skills in applied technologies. Western Nevada College offers a new credential this fall that will help area residents meet their job goals. Courses beginning Monday, August 31, can lead to a Manufacturing Technician 1 credential.

Western Nevada College has received a grant to purchase Department of Labor approved equipment, course development, grant management staff assistance to students and program support for the College’s newly expanded Applied Industrial Technology program.

Amodei: Arguments opposing Trade Promotion Authority no longer resemble reality

Congressman Mark Amodei, NV-2, voted Thursday in favor of legislation known as Trade Promotion Authority, which would set parameters and restrictions on the negotiations of a free trade agreement known as the Trans Pacific Partnership and provide for an up or down vote on the resulting agreement. It passed the House 218 to 208.

Broad offerings for summer term at Western Nevada College

Western Nevada College is making it easier to work toward a college degree and career skills. This summer, the college offers a variety of courses on campus and online, beginning Monday, June 8, through Saturday, Aug. 1.

A wide range of subjects will be available to students on the Carson City campus, including computer science, advanced mathematics, geology, biology, sign language, music, accounting, auto collision and composition, and more.

Carson City's average weekly wage shows 1 percent growth in last quarter of 2014

The average weekly wage in Nevada rose to $899 during the fourth quarter of 2014, an increase of 1.6 percent relative to a year ago. In Carson City, wages gained 1 percent, from $861 in 2013 to $870 at the end of 2014.
Statewide, this is the highest quarter on record since 1996, said Bill Anderson, chief economist for Nevada’s Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.
