Northern Nevada Development Authority will host 42 business leaders and government officials from Poland on Thursday who will visit Carson City among several stops as a follow-up to Gov. Brian Sandoval's European trade mission this summer.

Faraday Futures says it is considering Nevada, among 3 other states, to build a $1 billion manufacturing facility. California, Georgia, and Louisiana are also listed among the locations being considered for the company's first manufacturing facility.

Model train lovers are in for a special treat. It’s National Model Train Month and local aficionados are opening their doors and showing off their sets. While the climate might pose a shock for some of his employees, Todd Peterson found the business climate in Nevada just to his liking.

The president and now 100 percent owner of Peterson Products, Peterson is in the process of moving his manufacturing firm from San Mateo, Calif. to Dayton.

As the state of Nevada expands its manufacturing base, it also seeks to expand and enhance technical training opportunities for area residents. To that end, Western Nevada College has received a $150,000 Science and Technology grant to prepare residents for the new technical jobs.

A rubber and plastic manufacturer will move its plastic division from California to Carson Valley in Douglas County and bring 40 jobs along with it, officials with Northern Nevada Development Authority announced Thursday.

VIP Rubber and Plastic has purchased a building near Johnson Lane and plans a Jan. 4, 2016 opening. The company's main manufacturing facility will remain in La Habra, Calif.

Jonathan Shoff knows the value of a good job and a good education. Raised in Southern California primarily by his two grandfathers, one retired Navy and the other a pastor, Shoff moved to Carson City in 2000 to live with his uncle, and get back on the right track. Early brushes with the law for being, as he said, “young and dumb,” didn’t deter him from seeking a better life.

As more manufacturing businesses have moved to Northern Nevada, including Tesla in Storey County, Kayla Homme, 22, adjusted her career focus.

“I saw that opportunity,” she said. “I think it’s something like 70 percent men, so I figured as a woman I’d have a better chance.”

New Millennium Building Solutions is expanding its Northern Nevada operations in Fallon, the Northern Nevada Development Authority announced Thursday. New Millennium recently began a two phase expansion at its current facility and will hire up to 17 additional employees over the next six months.

In recognition of Nevada’s Manufacturing and Advanced Industries, Dream It Do It Nevada and Northern Nevada Development Authority would like to invite you to our first Nevada’s Manufacturing Month breakfast at the Governor’s Annex, Friday, October 2, 2015 to celebrate the importance of these industries to our state’s economy.

Embracing the area's design and manufacturing community, the Capital City Arts Initiative's [CCAI] exhibition, Industrial Art, is now at the Carson City Library. The show, previously at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery, will be available at the Library through November 19.

The Library will host a public reception for Industrial Art on Friday, October 2, 3:30-5pm in honor of Manufacturer's Month [October]. The Library’s MT1 training room and the Digitorium will also feature students’ manufacturing activities during the open house event.

AZZ Galvanizing Services, a global provider of steel protection, will build a new plant and fill dozens of jobs at the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center in Storey County, according to a joint announcement by the Northern Nevada Development Authority and the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada.

JB Straubel, co-founder and chief technical officer of Tesla Motors, will share an energizing overview of how advanced battery technologies and electric cars can pave the way toward energy independence and economic development, and how education and innovation plays a key role in reaching those goals.

Western Nevada College’s Applied Industrial Technology program, which saw a 50 percent increase in student enrollment between 2014 and 2015, will begin renovations to expand its current facility, thanks to a $25,000 grant from the NV Energy Foundation.

Nevada JobConnect will hold two job fairs this week, Wednesday, in Reno and Thursday in Carson City. The job fairs are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.

The job fair on Wednesday will be held at the Summit Mall at 13945 S. Virginia Street, Suite 636 in Reno and the Thursday job fair will be held at the Carson City Fuji Park Exhibit Hall at 601 Old Clear Creek Road.

Nevada Business Connections recently completed its 100th on-site interview and tours of manufacturers in Carson City, Douglas and Lyon counties. NBC's executive director Kris Holt and six members helped survey existing manufacturers regarding a great business climate and issues of concern.

Free entertainment will be provided by the Millennium Bugs. The Carson City Historical Society sponsors this event.

Northern Nevada Development Authority’s (NNDA) Executive Director Robert Hooper and a sub-delegation from the Sierra Region of Northern Nevada are in Lublin, Poland this week as part of Governor Sandoval’s European Trade Mission. The mission is part of an ongoing initiative to build relationships and grow Nevada’s international presence.

Northern Nevada’s new manufacturing growth requires employees with more skills in applied technologies. Western Nevada College offers a new credential this fall that will help area residents meet their job goals. Courses beginning Monday, August 31, can lead to a Manufacturing Technician 1 credential.

It's Your City with host Cortney Bloomer features Carson City Library Director Sena Loyd as this week's guest.

Among the topics featured this week, Bloomer and Loyd discuss Nevada's Working Capital program made possible through a Library Services Technology Act grant, in which the library is working with Western Nevada College and the Carson City School District to offer training and certification for manufacturing jobs.

Western Nevada College has received a grant to purchase Department of Labor approved equipment, course development, grant management staff assistance to students and program support for the College’s newly expanded Applied Industrial Technology program.

Congressman Mark Amodei, NV-2, voted Thursday in favor of legislation known as Trade Promotion Authority, which would set parameters and restrictions on the negotiations of a free trade agreement known as the Trans Pacific Partnership and provide for an up or down vote on the resulting agreement. It passed the House 218 to 208.

The TPA bill has been available to the public online for more than a month. Amodei released the following statement:

But in today’s world, this question has far deeper ramifications. That’s because a new technological wave is building on the horizon that will change the way we look at jobs, employment and the economy in general.

Embracing the area's design and manufacturing community, the Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, Industrial Art, at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery from June 9 – September 17, 2015.

CCAI will host a reception for the show on Friday, June 12, 5-7pm including a short introduction of the exhibition participants at 5:30pm.

Embracing the area’s design and manufacturing community, the Capital City Arts Initiative is hosting its exhibition, “Industrial Art,” from June 9 through Sept. 17 at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery.

Western Nevada College is making it easier to work toward a college degree and career skills. This summer, the college offers a variety of courses on campus and online, beginning Monday, June 8, through Saturday, Aug. 1.

A wide range of subjects will be available to students on the Carson City campus, including computer science, advanced mathematics, geology, biology, sign language, music, accounting, auto collision and composition, and more.

The average weekly wage in Nevada rose to $899 during the fourth quarter of 2014, an increase of 1.6 percent relative to a year ago. In Carson City, wages gained 1 percent, from $861 in 2013 to $870 at the end of 2014.
Statewide, this is the highest quarter on record since 1996, said Bill Anderson, chief economist for Nevada’s Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.
