Good luck, Carson City. The options for this weekend are endless, but you can’t be everywhere at once. CASI’s annual Pooch Plunge at the Carson Aquatic Center is always a fun time for your furry friends. Red’s Old 395 welcomes back the THiNK PiNK kick-off to breast cancer awareness month. Downtown you’ll find the wine walk, a rummage sale at the Veterans Memorial Hall, and the Fall Vintage Market at Due Sorella. Toast the season at Fandango: Oktoberfest has returned. Trash Mob to Clean Up Remnants of Waterfall Fire

The Waterfall Fire of 2004 was one of the worst fires in recent history to devastate the Eastern Sierra foothills near Carson City. After it was all said and done, over 8,700 acres and 18 homes were destroyed. As a part of the recovery process plastic tree protectors were put in place to help the seedlings that were planted.

Be Bold, Run in the Cold met with clouds and wind as storm approaches

The 7th Annual Be Bold, Run in the Cold Winter Trail Series took place this morning as runners of all ages met at Carson City's Long Ranch Park.

Carson City's Fuji Dog Park to be closed for 2015 Nevada Fair

Beginning Monday, Fuji Dog Park at 601 Old Clear Creek Road will be closed to the public as a dog park in preparation of the Nevada Fair. The park will reopen for dog use on Wednesday, Aug. 5.
Carson City Parks and Recreation encourages pet owners to take advantage of other "dog friendly" parks and paths in the area. Those parks are:

Carson City Arbor Day celebration Saturday features treasure hunt, fun run/walk

The Carson City Shade Tree Council and the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department will be celebrating Arbor Day this Saturday, April 25th at Long Ranch Park. The ceremony which will begin at 10 a.m. will celebrate Carson City’s 21st year recognition by the National Arbor Day Foundation, out of Nebraska City, Nebraska as a “Tree City USA.”

The Nevada Division of Forestry will be presenting the award to Carson City on behalf of the Foundation. Mayor Bob Crowell will read the Carson City Arbor Day proclamation and a state official will read the Nevada Arbor Day proclamation.

Garden Club to Honor Past Member at Arbor Day Activities

The wine walk is on the top of the weekend to-do list for many of you, but Carson City has a lot more going on. Ascent Runs is hosting a 5/10K and a half marathon at C-Hill on Saturday. You can register at the race, just make sure you aren’t late. Youth Football season has arrived with sign-ups for SYFL and Pop Warner on Saturday. Cheer on the Western Nevada College Wildcats as their Baseball and Softball teams battle against Salt Lake City Community College.

Man with shotgun detained near Long Ranch Park

UPDATE: It was determined that no crime was committed and the man was not arrested, according to the sheriff's office on Tuesday. The man told officers he took the gun with him because of bears.

Carson City sheriff's deputies detained a 45-year-old man at Long Ranch Park near Bristol Place Monday night after he was reportedly distraught and carrying a shotgun, leaving his residence, walking along streets and through the park.

Fuji Dog Park to be closed for the NV 150 Fair

The Fuji Dog Park will be closed to the public as a dog park in Carson City during the NV 150 Fair. This will be from Monday, July 28 to Tuesday, August 5.

The park will reopen as the dog park on Wednesday, August 6. The city parks and recreation department notes it regrets any inconvenience this may cause, and during this time the public is encourage you to visit and enjoy one of its many other “dog friendly” park facilities. Those are:

— Long Ranch Park, Longview Way & Waterford Drive. Dogs are allowed on or off-leash in designated areas of the park.
