Music, I have to believe, is the best medicine on the shelf. It cuts down on our doctor bills and keeps us from sourin'. So I went to the Jubilate Holiday Concert in Truckee to cheer myself up and put a spring back in my step. It turned out to be the best decision I could have made.

Hello from CHS in Carson City. I want to share this information with you so that you may be able to come and support our many students participating in Fall Sports. The list below has upcoming events for each sport in which our new Athletic Leadership Council is going to push out to their teams and friends to come support one another. In the spirit of unity, we want to reach out to both the staff and community to invite all of you to do the same.

Bachata Dance Workshop

Want to learn more Bachata? Here is the class for you! Bringing Latin dance lessons to carson city at Yaple's BAllroom on Carson St.
In this workshop we are going to learn some great combos that you will love. You need to know your basics to the bachata... the side basic, forward and back basic, and the basic 3 step turn in order to feel comfortable. BUT if you don't know bachata and want to learn, let us know and we will help you out!

I’m not even going to speculate on the air quality, but please use your best judgement when choosing your activities and there may be some cancellations that I am not aware of. Downtown has a full day of options, but the back roads may be a little more difficult to navigate due to construction projects. The great music that awaits will be worth the hassle. Carson’s Got Talent, a talent show featuring performers from Reno, Lake Tahoe, Carson City, Douglas County, Dayton and Yerington, lifted the audience Saturday while raising money for the Carson City Meals On Wheels program.

Carson’s Got Talent, a talent show featuring performers of all ages and genres, has announced the competition lineup for its April 14 show that benefits Meals On Wheels.

We have a wine walk weekend coming up and you won’t want to miss it. The ground-breaking on the downtown construction is Monday, so downtown will never look quite the same again. Those interested about the schedule or process won’t want to miss the ‘Pre-construction’ meeting with Public Works at the Sheriff’s office. Spend the evening in our historic downtown devouring sushi at Kim Lee’s, sampling the chef’s creations at Mystique, or enjoying a cocktail at the Carson Cigar Company. Fun seekers won’t want to miss karaoke night at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar.

Happy Thursday, Carson City. If you need a reason to get out of the house, look no further. Learn something new at one of the lectures tonight: Nicholas Clapp, author of ‘Dancing with the Devil: Virginia City’ at the Gold Hill Hotel or head to the Nevada State Museum to learn about the first fabricator of Levi’s jeans, Nevada’s own J.W. Davis. Take in some amazing views with Muscle Powered as they hike the Pine Nut Mountains. The talented band students from throughout the district come together tonight at Band-o-Rama in the Carson High School Gym. Read the whole list and find your fun.

The International Film Weekend has returned for the third year and brings a bit of multiculturalism with it. Spend the afternoon in Marlette Hall at Western Nevada College to see what some local filmmakers have created, and then head over to the Community Center for tonight’s film ‘Cherry Blossoms.’ This is a free event and just gets bigger and better. Check out the Career Expo highlighting the Career and Technical Education program at Carson High; it’s open to the public and students. Take a gander at the list for all of today’s options.

The Francis Humphrey Lecture Series returns to the Nevada State Museum with some freakish phenomenon found in the Black Rock Desert. Break a leg to the talented members of the Carson High Drama class performing at the Brewery Art Center. There will be three performances of ‘And Then They Came for Me,’ so don’t miss them in action.

The Nevada Division of the Pony Express Association keeps history alive and you are welcome to attend their monthly meeting at Grandma Hattie’s tonight. What a weekend in store for us: the Silver and Snowflakes Tree Lighting, the wine walk, Holiday with a Hero crawl, and more. First things first, though, Thursday fun stuff. Bundle up and head to Gardnerville for the Christmas Kick-off at Heritage Park with Santa, a tree lighting, and fireworks if the weather cooperates. Empty Bowls is hosting a preview night at the First Presbyterian Church; for a donation of $25 or more you get first pick of the handmade bowls that members of the community have made and decorated over the past year, and that includes admission to the soup fest tomorrow.

The Polar Express takes its first trip of the season today, and I hope you got your tickets. The annual event always sells out. Check here for ticket information; you may get lucky. Take the kids to the Carson City Library for weekly story time and check out CCAI’s Industrial Art Exhibit while you’re there. Today is the last day it will be on display. Hear stories of Old Virginia City at the Gold Hill Hotel. Or take a trip to the Nevada State Museum: the bombing of a Basque village during the Spanish Civil War and the affect it had on the United States is the topic of this month’s Francis Humphry lecture.
