Hollywood screenwriter to hold workshop at Brewery Arts Center March 2

The workshop will take place Saturday, March 2 in the Brewery Art Center’s 1864 Grand Ballroom from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Beginners will learn the tools needed to write their first screenplay. Advanced writers will increase their skills and gain valuable insights into the writing process.
Sean Mick studied filmmaking, history, and analysis at Sonoma State University in Northern California, then continued his training through seminars with some of the best screenwriting “gurus” in Hollywood, including Robert McKee.

Yesterday’s Jazz and beyond performances were moved indoors at the Brewery Arts Center when the rain hit, but I have more hope for today’s skies. Look for The Other Brothers Band this evening in the Comma Coffee Courtyard. Carson City BMX hosts practice and racing at the track in the Livermore Sports Complex; all ages are invited to participate, and one day memberships are available for those who’d like to try it out.

Capital City Arts Initiative is proud to present Nicole Nathan, curator at the Museum of Contemporary Craft in Portland, Oregon. Nathan will give an illustrated talk on the role of craft and design in contemporary culture, titled ‘Craft Now’, as part of CCAI’s ongoing Nevada Neighbors Series.

Stick around for a concert in the park featuring Dougie L. and the Lost Reverends, but you’ll want to bring a blanket or lawn chair. Chili and Salsa are still at Glen Eagles, so you have a second chance to pick a favorite. It’s your last chance to catch Senior Follies at the Community Center, and the Proscenium Players have a matinee of ‘Murder in an English Manor’ this afternoon, as well.

The annual Chili Cook-off and Craft Fair hits Glen Eagles this weekend, and there will be plenty to sample. If you need something cold to drink, head to 7-ELEVEN for a free small slushee from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. in celebration of Seven Eleven Day. The Farmers Market is always a good bet on Saturday mornings for sampling all the yummy stuff that grows nearby.

If you haven’t heard yet, Sassafras has returned and is serving up its Eclectic fare in its new location right next to the Carson Hot Springs. Downtown, the Lake Tahoe Brewing Co. will be hosting the Chamber of Commerce for its Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting. Capital Eats inside Westside Pour House (former home of Mo and Sluggo’s) always has some tempting dishes. A little further north on Carson St., Living the Good Life Nightclub and Bistro has live music this evening and a delicious array of options on its menu.

The event, starting at 10am at Carson ATA Martial Arts, will cover topics such as stranger and abduction safety, bullying prevention, and online and home safety. There will be a hands-on segment to teach safety and bulling prevention techniques. Participants will also work on goal setting for school, home and activities, responsibility for school work and chores, creating proactive habits and how to follow through on goals.
