If you happen to be up very early on Saturday morning, you may just see some runners in the pre-dawn hours. The Reno-Tahoe Odyssey, a 178 mile relay, passes through Carson City on its way to Virginia City. A huge congratulations goes out to the Class of 2017; the Carson High graduates will get their diplomas today. It’s wine walk weekend, so downtown will be hopping with sippers, strollers, and plenty of summer fun. Keep reading, and you’re sure to find something to make this weekend special.

Tuesday, May 30: Things to do in Carson City

Just a few days left, and the school year will over. Scope out one of Carson City’s neighborhood parks during today’s Easy Walk or participate in something a little more strenuous as Muscle Powered tackles Prison Hill, off Snyder. Kids are encouraged to wear their comfy clothes and bring a favorite stuffed animal during the Carson Library’s weekly Pajama Story Time. The Deputy Howell Memorial Music Festival is quickly approaching, so all volunteers will need to attend tonight’s planning meeting at Harley Davidson.

Memorial Day, May 29: Things to do in the Carson City area

The long weekend continues. Memorial Day is for remembering our fallen heroes, those who have or are serving in our Armed Forces. We also honor those loved ones left behind. With several services around the area, you’ll easily find a way to pay your respects. Pick up an American flag at any of the shops or restaurants at the Carson Mall. Stay safe out there, and enjoy the day.

Memorial Weekend activities continue Sunday into Monday

It’s the perfect time to enjoy family and friends and some great music. The Carson Nugget powers it up to rock out tonight with Volt: A Tribute to AC/DC in their ballroom. Dayton Valley Golf Course offers up dinner and a show with this year’s debut of Concerts on the Green. Blues Monster and pulled pork sliders are a great way to enjoy the evening.

Volunteers and veterans place flags at Carson City cemetery ahead of Memorial Day

Veterans and families from Carson City volunteered their time at Lone Mountain Cemetery on Friday by placing more than 1,000 flags over the headstones of fallen veterans.

New food items introduced at Greater Nevada Field in 2017

The Reno Aces Baseball Club and Professional Sports Catering have revamped and reinvented the menus at Greater Nevada Field in 2017, officials announced Thursday. Additional game day concepts for the 2017 season include numerous brisket and bacon options, specialty hot dogs for every opponent, and an 1868 Burger, inspired by Reno 1868 FC.

I feel compelled to include the disclaimer that all of the following events are subject to change: this storm has the potential to wreak some havoc, so stay safe out there. Kids with cabin fever will enjoy story time at the Carson Library. Adults, get out of the house and enjoy some live music at Living the Good Life or Sassafras. Local McDonald’s restaurants hope to see you this evening: a fundraiser for the family of Ashley Bursey runs from 4 p.m.

Am I the only one suffering flashbacks to the Flood of ’97? It is soggy out there with no signs of letting up soon. Please drive carefully, some of those puddles may be deeper than they look. If the kids are getting cabin fever on their winter break, head to the Carson Library for Lego Club this afternoon. Thursday always offers karaoke: the boys of J and M Productions host it at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar. If your motorcycle is feeling neglected in the garage, head to Battle Born Harley for their monthly Bike Night, and commiserate with fellow riders over a game of pool, a pint, or some darts.

The week just keeps chugging along, and with it the last few days of 2016. If you haven’t yet, go check out the Nevada Christmas light show off Stephanie Way in Minden. Kids will have fun at Lego Club at the Carson City Library this afternoon, but it’s adults only for Trivia Night with Geeks who Drink. Bundle up, lace up your skates, and enjoy a spin around the Arlington Square Ice Rink. If you’ve had a birthday this month, head to Carson Cigar Company to celebrate with the Trippin King Snakes.

Celebrate New Years with CASI bingo. That's right CASI will be hosting bingo at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverley Drive on New Years day! Bring your friends and family for a fun and exciting afternoon of bingo. In addition to the prize money given to the winners of the games there will be raffle prizes and a 50/50 drawing too. Doors will open at 11:30 AM and the first game will start at 12:30. Buy-in is $10 and extra packets are $5. All other games are $1. The snack bar will be open offering hot dogs, chips and candy. Sometimes the wonderful CASI volunteers will bring soup.

Just a few days left before the big day. Get your fill of holiday music as the Ninth Annual Christmas Carol Play-along for Strings returns to Carson Mall. Even if you don’t play an instrument, voices are more than welcome to contribute to the tunes. Wintertime is perfect for curling up with a good book, join the Library’s Winter Read-a-thon to win some great prizes. Carson Cigar Company is throwing a party featuring Ev ‘Cheese the Knife’ Musselman of the Tripping King Snakes: they’ve been selling raffle tickets to benefit Food for Thought, so head down to support this great charity.

The Carson City Library has something in common with the epic spaghetti western ‘The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly’: they are both 50 years old. Celebrate the classic film and our classy library with an afternoon showing of the movie. Join Cherie Shipley at the Brewery Arts Center; the annual ‘Joyful Noise’ Community Holiday Show is full of cheer for all ages. Our high school and middle school student orchestras invite you to their free winter concert at the Community Center this evening. Living the Good Life welcomes singer/songwriter Liam Kyle Cahill back to their stage tonight.
