Genoa Main Street Enhancement Project dedication planned

To celebrate the completion of the Genoa Main Street Enhancement Project, the Town of Genoa along with the Douglas County Redevelopment Agency is hosting a Ribbon Cutting Dedication Ceremony, and Celebration on July 27th at 10 a.m. The ceremony will be held on Nixon Street north of Jacks Valley Road, in Genoa Nevada and will be followed by festivities until 1 p.m. in the downtown area.

Western Nevada College to graduate its largest class Monday

CARSON CITY — For the fourth consecutive year, Western Nevada College will graduate its largest class in history. The class of 2013 is 505 students strong, with 530 degrees and certificates being issued.

Four students will receive Bachelor of Technology degrees in construction management, and three students will graduate with bachelor’s degrees as part of WNC’s teacher preparation partnership with Nevada State College. The graduates span 60 years, from the youngest at age 17 and the eldest at 77.

Kiwanis One Day at Genoa's Mormon Station

Kiwanis’ 240,000 volunteers in 80 countries join together on the third Saturday in April, designated as Kiwanis One Day, a day for each club to perform a volunteer project in their community.

April 20, 2013 a total of 17 members of the Kiwanis Clubs of Carson City, Carson Valley, Lake Tahoe and Sierra Nevada with four Douglas High School Key Club members raked leaves at the Nevada State Park in Genoa, Mormon Station.

Nevada Runners in Boston Marathon

At least three Carson City residents and a Genoa resident were entered to run in the Boston Marathon, according to the official website. Listed as participants are: Brett Long, 35, and Kari Long, 34, of Carson City; Kirsten Sherve, 43, of Carson City; and Colleen Powers, 29, of Genoa. Les Wright of South Lake Tahoe, organizer of the Lake Tahoe Marathon, reports that he and and his wife and daughter are fine.

Douglas County authorities seek help in finding business and residential burglary suspects

Douglas County Sheriff's Office investigators are seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspects responsible for several burglaries that occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Jan. 15.

The unknown suspects committed burglaries at four separate locations in Douglas County; including a commercial burglary at the Genoa Bar, two burglaries at unoccupied homes in a residential neighborhood in Genoa, and several vehicle burglaries at two local auto repair shops in Gardnerville.

Citizens United Petition delivered to Carson City leaders

A petition representing over 213 concerned Carson City constituents (including 8 business owners) and 1661 other Nevada residents was presented to the Carson City Board of Supervisors on Thursday, December 6.

The petition asks the Board to join over 300 cities and 11 states in passing a resolution that supports a constitutional amendment to overturn the Supreme Court's 2010 Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission decision which opened the flood gates for unlimited outside spending in all political elections.

Heavy rain and wind arrives in Carson City, knocking down trees, power poles

UPDATE 1:45PM: Eagle Valley Creek in Carson City went above its flood stage just before 1 pm this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. A flood warning remains in effect until 6:15 p.m. for urban areas and small streams in Carson City and western Douglas County.

A powerful winter storm continues to move through Carson City this morning bringing wind and rain and assorted localized power outages to the area.
Carson City remains under a Flood Warning as is much of western Nevada from Reno to Douglas County, Lake Tahoe, Virginia City and Storey County. Anywhere from 2 to 3 inches of rain is possible for the foothills and valley floors.

Douglas County prepares for next wave of storms

The Douglas County Emergency Management has implemented a precautionary action plan for this weekend’s weather event. The plan has identified two potential weather events for this evening, Saturday, Dec. 1, through Sunday, De. 2. The first is going to be extreme winds, followed by potential heavy rains.

Arson has been ruled out but an investigation is ongoing after a fire Friday morning at the Genoa Station Grill and Bar adjacent to Genoa Town Hall.
Douglas County Dispatch received a 911 call of a structure fire at the Genoa Station Grill and Bar, which is a newer business adjacent to the Genoa Town Hall. East Fork Fire and Paramedic District along with Douglas County Sheriff’s Department and the Nevada Highway Patrol responded to the scene, said DCSO Sgt. Pat Brooks.
