The American Association of University Women Tahoe-Nevada affiliate presents its bi-annual Tahoe Treasures Tour of spectacular Incline Village homes, on Saturday, July 14, 2018, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This self-guided tour showcases four of Incline’s most unique and beautiful properties, including a home and garden with a magically eclectic art collection, a stunning contemporary home with “a river running through it,” the North Lake Tahoe Demonstration Garden, which fosters mountain gardening and the extraordinary home of a talented painter, sculptor and print maker.

DAYTON — The Central Lyon Fire Protection District is closing open burning for the season with final burning on Sunday, May 20, with a required burn permit.

We’re in for another gray day, but that won’t affect the fun to be had. Bike to Work Week always ends in a big bash. Head down to McFadden Plaza, even if you didn’t take the challenge personally. You’ll find live music, raffles, bike games, and too much fun. Western Nevada Musical Theater Company returns for another weekend of Singin’ in the Rain at the Bob Boldrick Theater. Antsy McClain and the Trailer Park Troubadours are waiting to entertain you at the Brewery Arts Center. There may be some balcony seating still available, but tickets are very limited.

The nonprofit Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey counties is inviting volunteers to help beautify the Dayton Food Pantry, the nonprofit garden center Community Roots & Shoots, and Healthy Communities grounds on Sunday, May 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 209 Dayton Valley Road.

Farmers, ranchers and gardeners everywhere face many of the same challenges: Weeds growing in unwanted places, critters digging holes and insects eating plants. To help producers better understand and overcome these common struggles, University of Nevada Cooperative Extension presents “Weeds, Critters and Insects in the Landscape and Garden,” May 29 at the CVIC Hall in Minden.

Mother Nature could not have picked a better weekend for sunshine and warm temperatures in the Nevada state capital as Carson City celebrated Earth Day with a garden festival Sunday at the historic Foreman-Roberts House, 1207 North Carson Street.

When organizers formed the Greenhouse Project 10 years ago in Carson City, their vision was to establish a sustainable program that provided wholesome, natural produce to the community.

What Carson City has benefited from over the past decade is exactly that.

The Reno Coin Club has returned to the Nevada State Museum for it’s annual National Coin Week celebration with lectures, demonstrations, and foreign coins for kids. It’s a BINGO kind of night. Dayton High School is raising funds for their Safe Grad Night with a huge raffle and plenty of family-friendly BINGO fun. About a decade ago, a group of community members organized a sustainable horticulture program targeting food insecurity in Carson City. They called it the Greenhouse Project, a not-for-profit effort to improve the quality of food available to the area’s most hungry.

Nature lovers will find a variety of ways to celebrate the outdoors during Carson City Historical Society’s Earth Day Garden Festival on April 22.

Sheep have arrived in West Carson City for their annual Spring feeding near C Hill.

A large herd of the woolly, cleft-hoofed herbivores can be seen grazing on grasses and shrubs along the backside of C Hill behind the Green House Garden Center off Rhodes and South Curry streets.

The sheep are brought in annually to help reduce wildfire fuels.

The Greenhouse Project and Future Farmers of America teamed-up Saturday to host the annual Early Spring Plant Sale at Carson High School, featuring cold-hardy varieties for an early vegetable garden.

The Carson City Historical Society, along with the Mark Twain Garden Club, the Desert Gardeners and the Sierra Desert Garden Club, is holding a Garden Festival on Earth Day, Sunday, April 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

April is a beautiful and busy month for CHS as the high school put on The Friendship Ball on April 5, Under the Sea Father Daughter Ball on April 6, and Prom on April 7.

With soggy weather here, some cancellations are inevitable. One thing you can count on, however, is the monthly Downtown Business Association’s wine walk; it’s a rain, shine, or blizzard event. Stay dry and well-fed with the Kiwanis annual BINGO Spaghetti Feed at the Carson Senior Center. There’s something special going on at Carson High for our community members over 50: the annual Senior/senior Friendship Prom is free to attend and a great reason to dress to the nines. Sportsman’s Warehouse celebrates ‘Ladies Night’ with raffles, games, and giveaways. The Friends of the Carson City Library have invited local author Ron Bell to the Browsers Corner Book Store for a special meet and greet and book signing.
